I got some from Tumbleweed about then also. I am hoping one will go broody soon. I am on my 3rd generation - I can let you know when/if I am going to have chicks.
Depending on the insulation in the garage. Your container should be big enough so that they can all move to the heat lamp to get warm and all move away from the heat lamp to cool off - I think I would turn it on at night.
3 Orpington roosters 4 months old. $5 each. The Black ones are very iridescent. Babies of the original ones I got from Tumbleweed. Have your own fertilized eggs! PM me for info.
I'm not a lawyer! I read the same ordinance. It isn't clear at all about the 350' - is it from the chickens? your property line? I just went and got chickens. :) My neighbors have asked if I have them and I have said yes and let them come over and see them. I also share eggs. I also don't...
I've got some of Tumbleweeds blue and Black Orps. I'll probably have a roo I'll need to get rid of soon. Hate to part with my babies, though. They have been going Broody often so when they do I could hook you up.
Creamof's feathers shine very purple, beautiful in person. Tumbleweed, it's from a Blue Orp/Black Orp tryst we got got from you. Of course I'm not sure exaclty who's egg. Ever seen a purple chicken before? I tried the feather checking for sex on days 3 and 4. On day 3, I thought it was a hen, on...
Wanted to share a pic of Momma Noddle Soup and the chickie she's raising, Creamof just peeking out from under her wing. Learning how many of the "old sayings" are true raising chickens.
Thanks Tumble! Everything is good now. Little Creamof (Noodle Soup is her Mom) is running around and then diving under Momma. Thanks for being my start on this wonderful adventure.
Thanks for your responce. The chickie is still scooting around, but lifting it's head. After work I'll investigate, someone told me not to touch them for 48 hours. I'm hopeful it's ok. Obviously it's my first hatchling and only one has hatched of the 5 I gave her. Two were broken somehow so...
My broody girl just had 1 egg hatch 5 hours ago. It doesn't look like it can stand-up. It's still hiding under Momma. Is this normal? Obviously it's my first hatch and I can't find anything on here about the 1st day.So excited and worried.
For the Hot days I freeze a angel food cake pan with water and layers of treats: greens, watermelon, strawberry tops, etc. I turn it out on an upside down garbage can lid. It melts and they'll stand in the cool water. They also peck at the treats and get extra water by eating the ice. I run home...
I promised Tumbleweed some pics of the coop. I had to expand when I adopted the 6 that were abandoned. They are almost a year old :). Trying so hard not to get more - that darn chicken math.
Well then, since some of the roos are gone now, I have 2 true blue hens and 1 who is very grey with no lacing. I thought she would be the true blue. Also have 2 black girls. I rescued 6 from a repo'd house. (I quarentined for 45 days) There's that chicken math at work. They have a coop nearby...
