I love how I peruse this thread like some people do the garden threads. 😅
Anyway, I really want a cheeseburger for dinner after catching up here. Those arteries aren't gonna clog themselves!
You can add a weight to the pedal to make up the difference. Some models might also have adjustable tension. Word of warning though: once in a while, I see treadle feeder injuries, particularly with models that close overhead. I imagine this risk goes up a bit more with bantams.
Thank you. ❤️
It doesn't feel like I'm making a lot of headway, but I'm determined, at a bare minimum, to get some data points out of this before it implodes.
I'm torn between just leaving things alone for the three that get along (which feels like tiptoeing around a sleeping bear), or just...
What style of waterer do you use? If it's an open source that can get feces in it, that will need to be washed daily. If you have a nipple style, I usually go 5-7 days between washings, depending on how hot it is outside (and I keep my waterer in the shade).
Coccidiosis often occurs when things...
Absolutely not. Sometimes they’ll have looser stools, but you shouldn’t see blood. I would start the flock on Corid immediately, just in case it’s coccidiosis.

I could have written this almost word for word about my cochin bantams. A shark is more docile, and I also have an Ellie named Dandelion. She's the 2nd lowest bird and a pecking order lunatic.
Had a couple Australorps before this, and they were fantastic! Super friendly and easy to handle.
~ A DOWNWARD SHIFT ~
We're on Day 5 of 7 in our initial Fuhgeddaboudit week for Dandelion and Hornet. There's been a noticeable shift in the flock over the last several days. I almost want to say they're acting depressed. No one's really interested in leaving the 9-foot wall along Dandelion's...
Some of these chicken influencers:
"I pre-treat my flock with ivermectin and there's NO egg withdrawal!"
How irresponsible can you possibly be. Just because you're okay with ingesting ivermectin doesn't mean everyone is. This is why I could never be an influencer. All my advice would be super...
I've already done it twice in 5 months for this flock, so I get it. Some medical things are just way over my head. Super grateful we have a vet to see them!
Ha! I feel like every d'Uccle looks and behaves exactly the same. 🤣 I love mine so much. Such a character!
It almost looks like her toenail got pushed into the nail bed and created a large enough wound for debris to get in. If it's swollen and warm, it's likely infected. Any chance you have a vet that takes chickens near you? I know a lot of people here "do their own stunts", so to speak, but that...
I don't know what your setup's like, but if you can carve out a reasonable space for her... something like 3x6 to 4x8 with all the chicken amenities, you can try keeping her separated long enough to break the habit. Someone suggested to me that it could take up to 3 weeks, so it's a commitment...
