    I just put out our heat lamp and after reading this I feel the need to take it down. I am so sorry for your losses I don't know what I would do if my chickens died in a fire!! I used the lamp from our brooder.

    This is what she looks like and she backs up whenever the other girls are near. She is at the bottom of the pecking order for sure! If you can see, the other girls have pecked her neck bare.

    How cold is TOO cold for a chicken?

    My coop is pretty big and the temps are well below freezing! All of my girls stay in the coop all day long but when they sit down they are shaking like crazy. I am so scared that they are too cold.

    Got sand? You should!

    So does the sand freeze in the winter time because we are having temps well below freezing and I am using pine shavings but after all of these lovely comments on sand I am thinking about getting some.

    Well I tried to put petroleum jelly on one of my girls combs and they didn't really like that. But one of my hens is acting a little strange her breast is leaned over all the way to the ground and she is getting pecked at!
