Day 19: 12 fully hatched chicks! 1 is still in the shell, waiting to hatch, one with dried membrane stuck all over her. Time for a warm-water, cotton-ball bath, I reckon. .
We've always let the hens do the hatching. This time, we're gonna try hatching some. 15 to be exact.
The incubator is a "Little Giant" model. So far, it's DAY-1 !
Not certain I want to be part of this "group" any longer.
All ANYONE wants to do is ARGUE :rant like a bunch of kids.
Good luck with your flocks -- I'm outa here. Sheeeesh. :he

Save the oatmeal and "you" eat it ! Buy bushels of Corn and shuck or grind your own.
You can buy a rough mill grinder for...
A source for what? Ask a vet familiar with glucan-fiber / nutrition as it pertains to chickens.
Been raising chickens for many, many years. A little research goes a long ways.
Beyond that -- stop reading online nonsense and contact:
University of Minnesota Extension for starters..
Chickens prefer whole corn over cracked corn. They'll eat any type of corn but prefer whole corn. They'll eat cracked corn to, but spend more time pecking for the cracked versus whole.
If it's on the cob, they'll eat it just as well.
There are certain types of "rolled oat" fibers (high fibers)
that chickens simply cannot digest. It cause the contents of
the digestive tract to thicken. This leads to a
(reduction) in the bird’s ability to digest and absorb nutrients.
Rolled Oat fibers contain "Beta-glucons" which bind with...
Will our chickens survive the winter. . .?
(Brace yourselves) --- it turns out ~ They CAN -and- They WILL !!
Despite our efforts and desire to control everything,
“chickens” are able to survive the winter months.
Truth is, chickens are VERY well equipped to keep themselves warm
(because)...
Yup. We have too. Stock-up what you can, be as frugal as possible.
Most of our coop minus the wire fencing is all re-purposed materials.
I'm really not expecting our economy to recover either. They are trying to collapse it on purpose, (it's apparent).Survival mode is a readiness mode. And...
Ours wont eat whole carrots. But if we peel em with a peeler, they eat em.
We had a bunch of heirloom cucumbers (the little round ones) come in late, that were kind of tough & thick skinned.
We gave em to the chickens and they had a ball with em, chasing each other around !
"Mashed potatoes" -...
Corn per bushel here is $5.57 which is ridiculous. I was paying $11.00+ per 50lb. bag.
Now it's almost $16.00. Been slowly stocking up. I suggest anyone reading this to do the same. This is not going to improve any time soon, if in fact -- ever.
Time to be a "farmer" again.
"Toil in the soil"...
No. "Leave the leaves" on ! "Husk the corn" (peel the leaves back) and let em dry.
(the corn on the cob) not the leaves!
Hang em up with twine in rows so the air can dry em out. It takes about a week. Sometimes 10 days or so, depends where you hang em. If you have a barn, shed, garage, somewhere...
Also, (provided you have the room) try raising some corn. We have 1 garden plot that is
about 20 feet x 20 feet, that we generally raise corn in (just for the chickens).
It's not a huge yield, but it is an additional supplement for them. And given the direction this
Country is headed, EVERYONE...
