I've had mixed luck with my orientals, trampling has been a big issue but some are great. I have a Malay hen with chicks who's kept all she hatched healthy so far with no squashes so I guess it's hen dependent? My mutts are all furious feathered incubators though. That momma herds those...

This American hen split my lip last brood for trying to get a little to close for a pic, she's one of my favorites. Oriental/American hen, she'll probably keep her chicks until they're her size. She hatched the eggs with her mother and sister sitting on the same nest.

He's from a crossing of Asil and Cream Hulsey. I'm real excited about him, I've wanted Dom birds since I started raising them and haven't been able to find them. Then out of nowhere this year he hatched and there's 2 other Dom looking pattern chicks too.

I'll have to read up on roundhead american. This cockerel is from a crossing of my paki asil over his original mates and their daughters and daughters daughters so on. So its possible for any american blood to have shown itself. Thanks for the info and helping me narrow down what may be...

Not sure what these are. What do you guys think, Thai or Malay? The rooster is tall enough he can look down into my masons wheelbarrow and the pullets aren't to much shorter.

I live in Pa but spent most of last winter working in upstate NY and our winters are similar. I have a lot of deciduous and evergreen cover on my property for the birds. I started my flock with gamefowl lines and when I can prefer to use gamefowl, but I have crossed in cubalaya hens, Sumatran...

Great project, thats essentially my goal with my ferals too. I have a couple Cubalaya crosses that do very well in this type of environment. I also tried a few RJF Asil crosses this spring that have been doing really well. The chicks could make it up in the trees within the first week.

X2 on the black coloration. I've seen the least amount of night and daytime predation on my feral blacks out of any coloration. You have a great conversation going about your cross ideas. I'd love to see pics along the way. I've also had the pleasure of working with several breeds from...
