Do not have only ONE nest box!

I just started raising chickens a year ago. Not a pro. Anyway, my coop is relatively small(7' square) and I started out with two nesting boxes. Then, I lowered it and they STILL would not USE it. So, I cut it in half(one box) and removed the special plastic commercial nest with an angled...

Stop me if this is too chicken crazy

they work great and are relatively cheap. They have accumulation boxes and you can just dump them out, dead, for your chickens. GOOD idea. I have one, and might do that this year.

Hey, Will Raccoons Eat My Chickens?

a no brainer; put up a trail cam and figure out his normal "visiting" time. Wait for him and . . . bang, bang. You're done; and so is he.

    Need Rooster Advice

YES, but you need to learn how to be the alpha. A couple of weeks ago I saw a woman on Utube showing how. . . search. Here is what she did as she explained, pretty cool: -- grabbed the rooster from behind and picked him up by his shoulders in the air, walked around a bit as she talked. --...

    wife problem

OK, this is just crazy. My wife is out in the hard driving snow trying to herd the chickens back into the coop-- worried their little feet will freeze off. Well, hey. This is the first snowfall of the Minnesota season and it is still 32°F outside for cryin' out loud. Maybe at 10 or 15...

    the chicken facilitator

It does seem to be quite reliable and we are never worried about where the chickens are around dusk or dawn. They just know to be inside plenty early and wait for the door to open before marching out. Pretty painless.

I need your opinions on Coops! What do you think of prefab coops?

I have a small 4'x 6' coop for 6 hens; mounted above same footprint for the run(just ground). Planning on using wood shavings for the coop but will use your suggestion above to improve odor there. Coop has plywood floor, so not planning on sand there but sand makes sense for the run. Do...

I need your opinions on Coops! What do you think of prefab coops?

The best thing to do is to buy this book: "Raising Chickens", by Gail Damerow. . . and READ it. Then, build your own. Or, in your case, tear it down and start over as necessary . . . Good Luck!
