I think I could let them run around the backyard in the evening when I’m home from work. We have hawks in the area though, a little worried about that. And I hate to have to sit out there every single evening. Especially in August in Texas. Then I have to make sure they don’t fly over the fence...
I don’t have a rooster but I do think I have an aggressive hen. Not sure if they are overcrowded I’ve got a 4 foot wide by 8 foot long tractor, and a 3’ x 5’ coop. They’re attached. Occasionally I move the tractor around the yard

That hen makes a lot more noise in the morning than the others. It was sitting on two eggs. But I’m typically not getting 5 eggs a day. Only four. I have a total of 5 chickens. I’m still Skeptical
