    Making a crop bra for a hen with pendulous crop

    I bought a crop bra for Eliza, that darn little problem girl, and out it on her today. I don’t think it pulls the crop up enough, so I will definitely put in an insert in a couple of days if it doesn’t seem to be doing it’s job. Thanks, as usual!!

    UPDATED: LACEY PASSED 4:00 AM 6/9/21

    I had this same experience today. Mariah was 9 months old. I did notice her comb and wattle were a bit pale yesterday, but she did lay (which, honestly, she doesn't do very regularly). This morning when I let them out of the coop into the run, I noticed she was away by herself. NOT like her! She...

    Respiratory Distress

    Well, she just passed away. She jumped up and couldn't breathe, I think, was flopping all over and then collapsed and died.

    Stopped Laying Completely

    We have a Barred Rock who is just under 2 years old. Her first year, she laid big, beautiful, brown eggs daily. Last fall we added four new girls. Around that time she stopped laying and then had some soft eggs that broke when she laid them. We had to pull a couple out. She stopped laying for...

    Respiratory Distress

    @azygous Do you have any tips? Your advice for our chick with impacted/sour crop got her right through it. Thought I would try you on this issue.

    Respiratory Distress

    Yesterday I noticed that our 9 month Cream Legbar's comb and waddle seemed a bit pale. This morning, she was laying next to the fence away from the other girls (we have 6 total). I threw out a bit of scrambled egg leftover from breakfast and, of course, they all came running except for her. I...

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    She’s only about a year and a half. She’s always been a bit of a mess. We will continue with oil and massages and hope for the best! Grit is available for her. I’ll update you in a few days. Thanks so much!!

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    Hi @azygous! I wondered if I could bother you for a bit more advice. Eliza is back with the flock and seems to be doing just fine. Her crop has yet to completely empty, however. This morning it was still pretty doughy, but malleable. Last night she still had a water ballooney feel to it. More...

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    Thank you @azygous! Because of your support, our Eliza rejoined the flock yesterday! She quickly reminded the other girls of their pecking order and hit the spa. She had just a very small bit of squish to her crop this morning, but still has a couple of days left of her yeast treatment. I cannot...

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    That’s good info on the bedding!! Thank you! Sand would work really well in their new coop! They will range during the day in the fenced backyard. She is definitely much better today. She does have a doughy ball, but it’s malleable. Treating with oil and massages. Continuing yeast med. she...

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    The sour crop definitely seems to be better this morning. And she was standing on her little roosting bar (where she actually roosted last night instead of laying in the ground). But she has an impaction again today. We noticed yesterday that she was pecking into her bedding (pine shavings)...

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    Let her out just a bit ago and she had an even better poop AND she ate her egg that she has been refusing all day. She is walking around, doing some preening and squawking at the other animals. Definitely more her little bossy self. (Never thought in a million years I would be rejoicing over...

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    @azygous She was a little perkier this afternoon, still not interested in eating. I ordered the CaCitrateD3, but it won’t be here until tomorrow. So I went to the Amish site and they had powder CaCitrate and separate D3 drops. I mixed a dose of each of those together with a little olive oil and...

    How often should the girls with the reproductive issues be given the calcium?

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    You are amazing for being so prompt to reply. I appreciate you so much. It was shell less, just a squishy covering. She also pooped all over my lap, but it was pretty runny and yellow. Yesterday I had given her just a few mealworms, and they were in the excrement. I will get that calcium citrate...

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    @azygous Sorry to bother you again. So yesterday Eliza ate some scrambled eggs throughout the day with some Greek yogurt. She was an enthusiastic eater, drank good. She even ate the micozinole right out of my hand. And she was bossy all day in her crate. This morning, she seems worse. She didn’t...

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    I will give this a try! We’ll have to do it when she coops up for the night because she is uncatchable!! 😂

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    Thank you!! I really appreciate your advice!! On another note: our 18 mo old Barred Rock was our super layer, every single day. At the end of her laying season before winter, she laid a couple of soft shelled eggs. My daughter pull a couple out of her vent that were dangling. She has not yet...

    Impacted crop ——-> Sour crop

    Thank you for your reply @azygous!! We still have her isolated in a crate in the house with water with ACV. How long would you advise we keep her isolated? It’s the only real way to monitor her eating and poop. They do not have access to food/water at night while sleeping at this time. Should I...
