During a freeze I just put fresh water in a bowl for the chickens. Here in San Antonio, the freeze is usually in the morning, by the afternoon the temp is up enough for the nipples to be working.
I just would like to say, my Rhode Island Red who is 31 weeks old, has finally started laying eggs. I was starting to think she was handicapped! So much for the early maturity BS!
It's really is for vent gleet, which involves the digestive system of the chicken and vent area. Seeing how her bird's problem involves the digestive system, I figure it cannot hurt to give it a try. Thanks for your information as well.
I have a 9 month old hen that always had a dirty vent area. Believe she had vent gleet… Last week it was so bad I gave her a bath, cut her feathers away from her vent, fed her chopped garlic hidden inside rolled bread balls, bread dipped in organic vinegar and 1 pill a day of Digestive...
Welcome back to Texas! I too have a very small string of Christmas lights up in the hen house, it's just so they are not in complete darkness. I read chickens cannot see in the dark! The daylight bulb was to simulate egg production during the winter months.
My egg production during this winter fell off drastically. I recently mounted a small overhead daylight bulb for my girls, let me tell you they love it & started laying eggs like crazy. So, if any of you are having the same problem, I strongly recommend the daylight bulb.
Seeing how you don't know 4sure what she has, I would give the injection as a precautionary measure! You should also force feed her water so she doesn't die from dehydration.
The old medication should have worked, maybe she has something else. When I get a sick chicken I use Tylan 50 Injection. After just one injection (total 3) you should see a vast improvement in her health. I swear by it! Good Luck…
I have a New Hampshire Red that is 30 weeks old and still has not laid an egg! Her sisters, a golden sex link & Plymouth rock the same age, have been laying an egg a day for months. Has anyone else had this problem?
Happy Holidays, I'm checking in to see if the Tylan power worked on your sick chicks? I have never used the powder, just the injectable. Let me know how things went.
Happy Holidays,
Todd
