I have two Wellsummer roosters. Was wishing they were hens then saw my dark drown egg wishes disappear. Sigh. Anybody want the roosters? Got them as chicks in February. Not crowing quite yet. I'd love to replace them with one or two Wellsummer hens if anyone has any available.

Thanks! No birds right now. I'm about to bring in a new flock soon. Tweaks? Maybe a few minor things like maybe more narrow roost/poop deck. I think I would also flip the 2X4 because I think the chickens prefer roosting on the 2" section rather than the 4". I also noticed they tend to roost...

Embarrassing to say, but I am currently without chickens. They all stopped laying last fall and I didn't want to deal with them through the winter. I'll be getting new chicks soon for a refresh. At the peak, I had about 14 chickens.

3 years later....fun to revisit the start of my coop project. Not sure I would change anything I have going on with my coop and layout. Thought I would bump this up in case it helps anyone starting their coop projects.

She is up and walking around today. I'd be willing to bet she is ready to lay her first egg. That would be fantastic.

I've not been on in a while. I hope everyone is well. I need some advice. I have a Leghorn that I found tonight laying on her belly and won't get up on her feet. Normally she will run from me but didn't mind getting picked up. She is about 5 months old. Not laying yet. No blood, bones feel fine...

This morning I went out to check on the chickens before heading out to work. Look what I found in one of the nests: Do any of you have chickens that lay golden eggs? Or should I say neighbors secretly planting golden eggs in your nest boxes?

I made a final addition to my coop with a better feeder taken from a post on the forum. It is the beginning to the end of feed waste for me. I love this 5 gallon bucket setup and it has been working fine for 8 chickens. I'm going 3+ weeks and haven't had to refill it yet. Of course the chickens...

To tell you the truth, I miss his awesome crowing. But my neighbors don't. He's a handsome bird and much happier on your property than mine. You have a real nice setup RJ!

@gus2pp I bought 7 new chicks from IFA on March 16. I'm not sure how old they were to begin with. I'm excited to add to my flock of BR, BO, BSL, RIR and Ameracauna with 3 Leghorns (White, silver & brown), 2 Wellsummers, a Delaware and a Jersey Giant. I hope they all get along!

I picked up a few Leghorns a couple of weeks ago. This particular brown or silver leghorn makes me wonder if she is a he. Those feathers make me wonder. What do you think?

Yeah, that would be the plan. Although my kids really want some fun chickens like the frizzles. Probably not the best choice for egg laying.

It's been a while since I've posted. I guess since I gave my rooster to RJ. I hope all is well with him, no word since last summer! My coop has worked out amazingly well. The only change I made was getting rid of the feed tubes and went with a 5 gallon bucket with a couple of 90 degree elbows...

Really nice photo RJ! Our neighbor's dog would always look into our run through a chainlink fence. I'm not sure if RC became somewhat accustomed to him or not. Glad to hear he stood up to your intruder. I do miss his crowing. I'm glad he has worked out well for you. He looks awesome!

Not very big. However those two little eggs make it look massive. I have 8 hens so I suppose it won't be long before I start giving eggs away.

I built those nests just in time. My black sex links decided to start laying their first eggs. I got one on Saturday and two yesterday. They are small but perfectly shaped. One of them laid in the run but the other used the nest boxes. I guess I'm doing something right. Nothing like two chickens...

I should have taken the egg out. She already smooshed or tried to eat it. Ooops. At least I got a pic before the egg carnage.
