I'm sorry to hear that she didn't make it. When I read the post where you said about 10" was hanging out I wasn't feeling too optimistic; but I still hoped not to see that she hadn't made it. You did everything that you could for her.

Hi,
You're going to want to seperate her from the other chicks. Not to be gross, but they may peck at/eat the prolapse. Most recommend generously applying preperation h to the vent area several times per day to help shrink tissues. In other animals I have soaked the vent area in cool sugar...
Hi,
I don't know the official answer to this question...but we are ine week 2 of confirmed swine flu in our household. This unfortunately includes me too! My chickens have not had any adverse reaction to being exposed to swine flu. There is not a lot of cross contamination with them. I...
Hi there,
I'm sorry that the fox got your birds. Anyhow, have you cleaned the wounds? I don't like peroxide personally but there are lots of suggestions for what to wash the wounds out with. I personally use a diluted betadine solution with my animals...but I know there are folks on this...
I'm sorry for your loss. There is no sense in second guessing your choices. When it mattered, you made the best decision you could for her and allowed her to go peacefully.
Hi,
Sounds like it could be a prolapse, but it takes a more experienced chicken person than me to say for sure. Do you have any pictures? That would be helpful?
Tracy
Hi,
I'm new to chickens, but an old hand to animals in general. I agree, the maggot issue cannot be left alone until tomorrow. Please, PLEASE follow the advice given to get the maggots out of your girl. Even if she is too sick to save; you don't want her to suffer when you can do something...
#1 looks like a pullet to me. She is very pretty. #2 & #3 look roo-ish to me, but I'm not positive. I'm new to this myself...and I keep trying my hand and guessing genders so that I stand a snowball's chance of ever figuring it out on my own. LOL

Wow...what an experience. And what a fierce Mother Hen you are kicking butt and protecting your feathered kids. And the world has one less frickin' raccoon. Yay!!!!
I hope your other hen is found in the light of day.

I don't have any real feedback...I think you're guessing well! :-) Can you share what #3's special needs are? I'm just being nosey...curious...call it what you will. They are pretty babies. I'm getting so many ideas for what chickies I'm going to bully my husband into letting me get next...
The red one(s) look like pullets to me. The white one perched on the tub looks like a pullet. 1 see one white rooster and the white with black spots chick is a rooster. Or at least these are my guesses.
Nice kids. :-)
