    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

Well .. I'm sorry to say I rehomed the 4 Khakis I got not that long ago. They were lovely and hard working slug hunters and great egg layers but even though I cleaned their coop every couple of days the smell was wafting and I knew it was only a matter of time before the neighbours started...

Baby Ducks - to take from the mother or not to take....that is the question.

If you have ducks this protective I would just leave the ducklings with them. JMHO ETA: the ducks might take some of the babies out foraging before they are all hatched. Then she will go back and set a bit longer for the last eggs to hatch. Or she may abandon any eggs that are too slow to...

I'm no expert but when I was a kid on the farm my Mum used to do pretty much what you've done; make sure they have adequate food and water near the nest, leave them alone as much as possible, watch the nest in case they do abandon it and have an incubator on stand-by. It's easy to think...

soft shells, grit .. DE and more. Questions from the backyard

Interesting .. I have 3 Khaki Campbell ducks and 1 drake that I got as adult ducks. I have been getting 1 egg a day since they first arrived. Then after about a week of settling in I started getting 2 eggs a day and then, once a week I get 3 eggs a day. The soft egg is always on the day I...

soft shells, grit .. DE and more. Questions from the backyard

I did a search but didn't find much for answers to my exact question. One of my Khakis is laying partially soft shells. I know oyster shell is the answer BUT there is oyster shell in their feed (they are new ducks for me so two weeks on the new feed and she has just begun laying in the last...

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

Oh .. I wasn't thinking of a whole coop made that way, I was just thinking of doing the live willow shelter for a couple of small nesting boxes in the yard so they would hopefully lay their eggs in a clean, dry place and i wouldn't have to go hunting for them. Usually they lay their eggs in the...

Would love to see what you come up with. I'm thinking like this but duck sized. Just stick some willow branches in the dirt and bend them over, a little weaving and voila .. they'll sprout and then it's just a matter of keeping the inside pruned.

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

Soooo .. yesterday and today I had to put the girls out early because I had to work at 6am (so they went out at 5am compared to their normal 7am) Yesterday they were in shock at being so rudely ousted from bed and didn't lay any eggs. Today I found this .. see the yellow arrow .. this is a...

The other thing that makes me think drake is that black bean on his bill. My adult females have a soft brown bean that blends in with the colour of their beaks while my drake's bean is very obvious.

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

I'm certainly no expert but this looks like the bill and feet on my drake so I'd say drake ... but I am starting to think my drake might be Khaki/Cayuga cross. His body is brown but with grey undertones, his head is almost black with green shine, his bill is green and his legs are bright...
