Comment by 'Erin Boyer' in item 'Australorp'

Doesn't sound at all like ours! I wonder if they are Australorps? When I bought mine from the feed store, they were supposed to be black copper marans, but turned out to be australorps, but we love them! We have two and they are very gentle and lay a nice large egg almost every day. Ours came...

Can ducklings eat medicated chick starter feed?

The leg & growth problems are from niacin deficiency, not from the amprolium. The mediated starter by itself is 'safe' but can be lacking in the amount of niacin waterfowl need. If you supplement the feed, they should be fine.

Ended Official BYC-Mini Contest - Post a pic of your chickens with your other

This is one of my Buff Orpingtons who hatched out a duckling this summer. It was the only fertile egg to survive during the heat wave we had. It was too hot for it to be in the coop, so they stayed in a tote in the house until it cooled a bit.

Sick Chick... what to do? Video included

I also have a chick that isn't thriving. It acts sleepy and moves in slow motion. It's done this since I got it a couple weeks ago. It doesn't seem to be getting worse, but it hasn't grown at all compared to the other chicks I got at the same time. It still eats and drinks, but I am afraid one...

First egg but hens not going into nesting box?

How about trying something simple first, like putting an upside down milk crate under the nest box perch, just to see if that helps get them up to it?

    Sevin dust

I have had good luck keeping mites and fleas at bay by keeping fresh pine shavings spread on the coop floor and in the boxes.
