I seem to have the pickiest chickens on the planet. So far, the only treats they'll eat are eggs (but only the yolks unless I scramble the eggs - and then they still "throw away" the whiter bits), grapes (but black grapes are preferred; red are meh and green are a nonstarter), and mealworms. My...
I have three chickens. The coop manufacturer has expansions available (e.g. runs); I just want to see how this one works out before buying anything else - and I'm not opposed to DIY either.
I'm struggling with how to let the chickens roam freely about the yard because we have many predators in...
I don't get chicken psychology. 😝 Mine spend all day trying to escape the brooder, but when I take them outside on field trips, they just stick to me like glue - no flying around or exploring. Maybe I started too late??
LOL, I'm probably part of the problem, spoiling them! But I do need my dining room back. 😝
There is a deck area outside of the porch with a couple of steps down into the backyard where ideally the coop would reside.
Need help moving my 2-month-old "chicks" to their coop!
I don't have an existing flock to show them the ropes, and it hasn't helped.that our weather for the past month has alternated between 100° heat index and violent thunderstorms - often both on the same day, like today. The wheeled coop is...
A friend of a colleague gave him some fertilized eggs, which he gave to me. The eggs were a mix of colors (including two blue ones), but only four hatched and one of the chicks passed away after one week. The four eggs that hatched were all flesh-tone colors.
Hello! This is my 5½ week-old pullet Blondie. She has just developed feathers framing her face - I think it's called a beard?? From similar images, I think she may be an Olive Egger? Any breed guidance is greatly appreciated! 🙂
We're working on going outside. For all their bravado in the house - even with the dog around - they still stick to me like glue when we go on "field trips". Any advice on how to build their confidence, since I don't have any adult chickens to show them the ropes?
First-time chick mom and shockingly, they're still doing well! Their favorite activities are destroying their playpen and having flying contests. My dog seems to have finally learned that the chicks aren't squeaky toys.
Here's a picture of the Three Chickateers - Nellie, Blondbeard (or...
I'm looking for some advice on creating a perch for my three 4-week-old chicks. The setup is a little challenging because I'm using a nylon playpen for my brooder, so there aren't bars to which I could easily attach a perch.
1. What is the proper diameter of a perch for chicks? I was thinking of...
