I ended up cutting a small square out of 1/4” foam and sticking it in the tray beside the eggs. It didn’t seem super secure but it was plenty to keep the eggs from shifting and rolling.
With the Brinsea Ovation the eggs just sit all together in the trays, what do you use to fill the extra space if the try is not completely full of eggs?
That is good information. Thank You. I did open all mine. 10 were fully developed but never piped. I didn’t pay close attention to the ones with no chicks but I did see some red in some of them, so maybe they were too cold as well. My temp is definitely running 2deg low. I’ve had three...
I can only describe it as tasting like styrofoam. Not super strong but weird and off. Kinda like heating soup in the microwave in a styrofoam bowl, and the soup gets a styrofoam flavor. Made that mistake once in college.
Our chickens once got into styrofoam and the eggs started tasting like styrofoam. I ended up throwing out a bunch of eggs until their systems cleared out.
It’s so frustrating. I’ve heard humidity the last three days can be between 65 and 75. But I don’t really know. I did discover my incubator temp is about two deg off. I expect that was most of problem
Well the one chick that hatched didn't make it. Out of the 27 eggs only 11 had any development. One of those hatched but died. Of the other 10 one had piped but I didn't see it as it was on the bottom, it had almost no air sac and seemed to be very watery. Of the other 9, they seemed to have a...
What qualifies as a calibrated thermometer? I did Pop a meat thermometer in the air vent and it seemed to indicate it is at 98 to 100 it was fluctuating a bit.
Do you think there is still any chance of them hatching? Should I leave the live one in overnight or move it to the brooder this evening?
No I did not. This is only my second hatch and the last one was several years ago. I also do not have a thermometer or humidity sensor other than the one one the incubator.
I am on day 24. I had one little guy hatch at about 9 hours ago. I am not seeing any movement, chirps (other than the hatched chick) or pips. My one little chick seems to be doing okay, not yet fluffy but starting to, moving all around the incubator and still looking very tired. The temp is...
Tell me about anxiety! I’m on day 24 and had one hatch early this morning and have not noticed any other movement. I’m not really sure what to expect at this point. This is only my second time hatching and its been a couple years.
I don’t have an answer for you. I have a hatch going on now as well. One hatched this morning at about 5am (its now 11am) none of the other eggs show any signs. I set in 27 eggs.
