Countdown To Eggs! For June hatches 😊

We have a new egg layer! Eight weeks after the first started. It's either my Golden Laced Wyandotte or the Lavender Orpington. A light pinkish brown. Ahh! So excited!

Countdown To Eggs! For June hatches 😊

I have five pullets born on June 13th. My Blue Copper Marans started laying five weeks ago. The other four are still holding out. I noticed today that their combs are getting almost as red as the BCM. I hope someone else starts soon!

New layer and weird deflated egg

Three more eggs that were normal. One yesterday, and then overnight a rubber egg with a double yolk. Question: is this just a hiccup of a new layer? Just curious if she will outgrow it or if it's something that she will always be dealing with? Should I do another calcium pill?

New layer and weird deflated egg

Second normal egg in a row. No rubber/weird eggs in between. Her bottom is much cleaner too. I wonder if she was feeling ill in addition to needing the calcium boost. Thanks for all of the help!

New layer and weird deflated egg

I was using the Scratch and Peck Grower feed. I bought it from Azure Standard.

New layer and weird deflated egg

Egg update:. She laid a nice sized egg today! Hopefully the couple of days of calcium did the trick!

New layer and weird deflated egg

They get pellets. However, when they were on grower feed it was cracked grains and I did notice they all were picky and they would leave the fines behind. Maybe they have a standing deficiency?

New layer and weird deflated egg

They get free access during the day to their layer feed (scratch and peck) and oyster shell. I give treats sparingly. Sometimes the treat is pumpkin, sunflower seeds, greens, grubs, etc. It rotates.

New layer and weird deflated egg

Her appetite and behavior is normal. I noticed her poop is a little looser than normal but not diarrhea. Her comb is nice and red too. The rubber eggs have been interspersed with regular eggs. But it has been several days since the last regular egg which is unusual in her (very new) egg...

New layer and weird deflated egg

Hey there chicken peeps- I have a new layer of 3 weeks a Blue Copper Marans, who is a 22 weeks old. Every few eggs she has laid a "rubber egg." There have been two or three in total. When she lays a rubber egg it's at night and I find it on the poop tray in the morning. This morning I found...

Using Hemp; well do declare; who knew??

I'm thinking of getting some of the Carolina coop stuff to top it off so that they don't have crud stuck to their feet. I don't like the fibers. Maybe I will also reach out to Rent a Coop. Previous batches had some fiber but not these giant balls of it.

Using Hemp; well do declare; who knew??

I'm doing deep litter in my hoop coop run and have noticed the hemp I got recently from Rent A Coop (European Hemp) has a lot of thread like pieces that get tangled in the messy poops and then stuck to their feet. Anyone else having this problem? I'm new to chickens so I don't know if hemp is...

    Fibro Easter Egger Gender

It was the tail feathers that made me ask. They look different than my other chickens. Wasn't sure if that was due to breed or being a cockeral. This is my kid's chicken, so we are rooting for a pullet or it will need to be re-homed. It was sexed as female from Meyer.

    Deep Litter and Sweet PDZ

I am going to do a deep litter system in my hoop coop chicken run. I currently have an Eglu Cube in the run and was thinking of putting Sweet PDZ in the litter tray in the cube. Then, when I scoop the poop out each morning it would get added to the deep litter and stirred in. My question is...
