thanks! they are just starting out and are egg laying machines! I have 6 chickens...got 5 eggs yesterday and 6 today. They seem much happier and friendlier now too. A couple weeks before they started laying they were kind of mean!
So....my red sex links are just 17 weeks old today. They have been showing all the signs of being ready, (squatting, bright red comb, eating more...etc.) This is my first time having chickens but I've learned a lot from browsing around on backyard chickens. I have checked the nesting boxes daily...
An update on little miss Shmoopy:
She went to the vet on Monday. Monday night was rough for her, she was in a lot of pain. Thought I would have to take her to an emergency vet on Tuesday but she started showing signs of improvement.
Last night she got out of bed to bark at the neighbor dogs and...
I remember reading on this thread someone saying no. The chickens will eat it and it would be very bad.
The sand is scoopable. I use a kitty litter scoop and it works great.
Just got back from the vet. He said she has an intestinal infection and gave her an antibiotic and some medicine for her stomach. He said to only give her water today and tomorrow to give her boiled chicken and rice and plain yogurt and to keep her on a bland diet until she has recovered. She...
I've heard about pumpkin being good for a dog's stomach. I have a recipe for pumpkin dog biscuits but I haven't tried to make them yet.
I don't think I'd want her eating raw meat because I'd be concerned about the germs. Even if it didn't make her sick if she licked my son's face or something...
That is good to hear. Maybe that is all that is wrong with her.
Good to know. I'm starting to think pretty much all dog foods are junk. I have to say, yesterday and today she has only eaten real meat. Salmon and tuna yesterday, tuna and cooked ground beef today and she is acting so much better...
Thought I'd share some photos of her:
This was taken a few years ago, this is how she was sleeping
sitting on the couch
a few months ago, sunbathing
most recent just a few days ago getting a bath
Thanks, I will see if there is anything like that around here. If not, I'll be fine with paying for her vet check-up. She is past due anyways.
I know, I appreciate your opinion and everyone else's. That's why I created this thread to hear everyone's advice and make an educated decision on...
She's not itchy and I don't see anything abnormal between her toes. I did notice her sliding her butt across the floor the other night. That's the only time I've seen her do it, so I don't know.
Thanks for the advice.
Thank you for your kind words.
I think you may be right about the pointy thing. If it was coming from her GI tract it would be causing her a great deal of pain because of how far it stick out. She doesn't seem to be in any pain.
There is no yellow tint, and she has went 2 days without vomiting...
No I don't give her greenies or the chicken jerky crap. The only treats she will eat that don't upset her stomach is the milkbone marrow snacks. She will not eat any dog food now. She ate a few bites of salmon early this afternoon and she had half a can of tuna for dinner. So far she is keeping...
I'm taking her to the vet as soon as I'm able to. I can't believe I never noticed it before, but she has lost weight. She doesn't look skinny, but she used to be a little overweight and just looks normal sized now. Since she lost weight I also noticed a pointy bone like thing sticking out on her...
Lol...my chicks are 6 weeks old and I just witnessed the first dust bath. Definitely made me smile. When I clean the coop every morning the little stinkers hop around all over the place kicking dust up in my face (I have sand in my coop) and today one grabbed a hold of my sweatshirt drawstring...
