I feed them Producers Pride 16% layer feed mixed with scratch grains. Also occasional meal worms.
I have another question to add- she is the only one out of my flock who is molting, but she’s still laying eggs?? Is this normal? Her feather are beginning to grow back rather fast too as I can see them coming in!
Thank you so much for all the helpful info!! Wow okay I did not expect them to look like that during molting 😂 atleast I won’t be shocked now! Thanks again!
How did it go? We ended up blocking off the nesting box for 3 days, the other girls just laid eggs in the corner, and I’m hopeful it worked! She hasn’t been continuously in there since and we got an egg from her the other day. I’ll have to get a small crate to keep on hand incase it happens...
I’m wondering if these are signs of my girls starting to molt or something else? They are about a year and a half so this is their first time molting as they didn’t last year so I’m curious what to expect! One girl in particular has been looking pretty rough. She was broody for a couple days...
Thank you!! Closing off the nesting boxes as night have seemed to help but only at night. I’m wondering if closing off that specific box during the day as well will help? (There’s 3 nesting boxes) if not I will have to invest in a smaller dog crate! Thanks for the advice.
Hi!
I have a few questions on broodiness, specific to my hen. We went away for a couple days so didn’t collect eggs for about 3 days. The night we came back I noticed one of my girls slept in the nesting box (the favorite nesting box for all 6 of them) the next morning she was still there and...
The amount of posts I’ve made recently with chicken issues is ridiculous 🤦🏼♀️
I noticed today one of my girls broke her beak. From the research I’ve read, it seems like it will grow back? It doesn’t look like anything is exposed as it’s hopefully just the tip and she ate grass and mealworms...
Thank you for your reply! I have not seen any of them sneezing and they all seem to be acting normal. About 3 weeks ago we got a soft shell egg in the nesting box and then another cracked egg inside the coop that dropped from when they were roosting at night. We were treating one girl for...
I got this funky looking egg yesterday. I didn’t think much of it as we’ve gotten double yolks and fairy eggs before. We had a soft shell egg not too long ago but I provided oyster shells in a separate dish and that problem seemed to be handled. I cracked the egg this morning and it was full of...
Hi! It’s been about 2 weeks of treating my girl for bumblefoot. Got the original scab off 2 weeks ago and dug around for a little to try and get all the infection out. We’ve been soaking her in Epsom salt daily, spraying microcyn ah, applying prid and wrapping it. We stopped using the prid this...
Well it’s been 3 days now of soaking in Epsom salt, applying microcyn ah and prid then wrapping her feet. I think she’s used to the process now lol. She is still limping but more active as she’s jumping up to roost in the run and still digging for bugs. She struggles to get up on the first roost...
They have been laying for about 10 months. I did add in oyster shells to their feed today. The weird thing is- when I went to check the eggs tonight there were 6 and all normal. So that means she also laid a normal egg sometime between 5am and 8pm. Doesn’t that sound odd?
They eat pellets with scratch grains mixed in and mealworms as treats. I don’t usually feed them raw eggs but if one cracks they’ll get it! Because of the soft egg I added in oyster shells in their feed.
