I also reference this document linked above. Can you tell me why it says 16mg/kg, but your suggesting 125mg/kg?

    Crossbeak chick

How is she doing? I'm happy to help. I've got a lot of experience with crossbeak chickens. I'm part of a huge community that helps them thrive. I'd recommend keeping a weight on her (grams is preferred), so that you can ascertain that she is gaining some each day. Aim for 3 crop fulls a day...

    Crossbeak chick

Absolutely understandable. We all come from different standards and goals in raising poultry. I keep them for pets, not breeding, Eggs are bonus and byproduct. The people that I help with crossbeak care and feeding are in the same boat. It's not for everyone. A crossbeak is NOT one that...

    Crossbeak chick

I disagree. I have had 2 crossbeak hens. They both have laid eggs, lived with a flock and other than getting separated for a few minutes a day to suppliment by hand feeding, they did all the normal other chicken things. Foraging, dust bathing, preening (though less effective) they don't know...

Did this chicken eventually grow more feathers? I have a hen that looks very similar. Old ragged feathers, but they have never gotten better, and the tiny nubs that look like they're growing, never fully mature and grow back. wondering if this is a genetic condition, or if there is anything to...

Has anyone tried "Waterglassing" to preserve eggs?

Heres the container I used. the hydrated lime settled to the bottom, but didn't seem to affect anything. I used tongs to get the eggs out so I wouldn't contaminate the water.

Thanks for the poke to update!!!! things are going really really well. I put away 4 containers of eggs. In the beginning, I tried one or two every month. Cannot tell a difference in taste. the only spoiled ones were any with a cracked shell. I have NO floaters. They are all still sinking...

Yes, I live in Juneau. Its a mere 10 min drive from my house. we took our most docile and people oriented chicken on a 'field trip' to the glacier. My niece wanted to to a 'photo shoot' with her. Made her a hat and scarf for the occasion. But then she learned how well chicken clothing DOESNT...

Ended 2020 BYC Calendar - We Need Your Pictures!

I live here. It's only a 10 min drive from my house. We did take her on an 'outing.' She's incredibly tame, docile, and human oriented. she doesnt run off or flap when approached, so I didn't worry about getting her back.

Has anyone tried "Waterglassing" to preserve eggs?

Well, I'm the crazy one, trying it. Read the articles, watched the youTube videos. I'll follow up in a few months and let you know how it works out. I'm a good record keeper, so recorded the date I put them in there, and the day they were laid. I intend to add to it as I get more. Not a crock...
