Breed and Gender? Take your shot!

They didn’t. They were black, but those 2 had white/yellow chests and Butts. I watched them all come out of a box from the hatchery marked BSL. But…. Pretty sure those 2 are austrolorp or something, and looking like roosters….

Same age. 2 larger ones are all black, brownish feet. The smaller ones are the 2 with the yellow chest and brighter yellow feet.

What breed do we have here?

Bought these at Tractor Supply so they should be from Hoover Hatchery. They were sold as Black Sex Links, but we definitely have at least 2 different breeds going…. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

    What is eating my birds?

Raccoons are never alone. I started with catching 1 and finally ran out at 11. Keep setting the trap, but be mindful it could be something else too.

    Ant bites from h***

Borax mixed with sugar or syrup or... Mix about 8 parts of the sugar stuff to 1 part borax. You can play with the strength. If you go too strong ants won't touch it. Put it in something low the ants can get in. Keep it out of the chickens reach so they dont get it. Ants will take it back to...

    Hens arent using their roost.

First few days in the new coop, mine wouldn't roost either. Same thing, they just cuddled up in the corner. It wasn't cold, just comfort. So, after day 3 or 4 of noticing it, I would open the coop and set them up on the roost by hand. That's all it took was 1 time. After that they put themselves...

Me thinks I trapped baby raccoons under our house

If you use the have a hart trap you have to barricade and secure it to catch a trap savvy raccoon. I had the same problem. They would reach in from all sides or move the trap till it shut then reach in. I stack cinder blocks on 3 sides to limit the access. Change the baits up if need be. Mine...

    Walmart chicken feed????

My boss has 3-4 hens and he uses the layer one from Walmart, has for years. They seem to do good on it and pretty much all lay every day. Mine aren't that age yet, but I'll probably use it too. The layer feed from the feed store is about the same here so it will come down to convenience.

    grannys gone and done it

The squirrelinator is a live trap for squirrels. They advertise it on this site. It's also available online and most hardware stores. It's about $50.00.

What on earth could do this?

Was there no latch? It's much harder for a raccoon if he can't get it "started". They are smart and strong and if they can get it started they will keep working at it till they get in. If the latch holds it down and they can't get it to move, they will move to an easier place to start or move...

    grannys gone and done it

The squirrelinator works great. Just don't leave it in the sun this time of year. They won't last more than an hour or two in the sun. It will wipe out your squirrel population quick though. About 50 bucks and well worth it.
