Thank goodness. Of course she did! Sassiest hen in the flock. Will probs just treat with a saline solution but if it’s scabbed over hopefully it will heal fine

    Help! Is this fowl pox?

I recently discovered my hen looking like this. She’s been broody so every day ive just been coming to collect eggs and chuck her off the nest but haven’t had a chance to get a good look at her until now. I’ve discovered a black growth in the eye, dry and scab like. Aside from this she’s...

Our Easter egger bantam hybrid - 4.5 weeks old (with family tree!) male or female?

Yep, still early stages! I’ve had my reckonings that it’s a pullet, here’s hoping …. I’ll update this thread once it’s got some more adult plumage.

My mother hen has abandoned her chick at only a little over two weeks old. What can I do?

I can definitely try that. I put mum in the coop with the chick and she sat on it just fine, and also gestured for it to eat as well. The two of them have been escaping and spending time with the main flock anyways so it could be exaclty what you said. Thank you!

My mother hen has abandoned her chick at only a little over two weeks old. What can I do?

Up until the last few days my hen has been acting a little more aloof with her chick as it’s growing more independent, but today she set the mark by leaving the nursery coop and roosting with all the adult chickens, (which the chick cannot get to because it is up a ladder) and left it by itself...

This chick has two nails on one toe. How!??? (+ general breeding discussion)

Underneath the feathers there is pink skin and there’s some yellow colouring coming in on the beak, but now you have me thinking…. We also bred a silkie with the lavender auracana (first rooster) and she and the black hen lay similar eggs. (Pictured hen lays blue and silkie lays green) perhaps...

This chick has two nails on one toe. How!??? (+ general breeding discussion)

Hi all, I own chickens for enjoyment and over the years have had a couple roosters (seen in the image below) whom I’ve hatched chicks from. I recently bred the grand-chick of one of my favourite hens who passed away. The chick is happy and healthy but I’ve noticed this little imperfection on...

Auracana bantam cross - is this a little hen?

I’ve attached a picture of our day old chick that hatched yesterday. I’d vent sex but I’m no professional so I’m just going off of the more ambiguous methods for now. According to typical wing sexing methods this wee chick is a hen. Any help?

Our new cockerel Lenny - I love him to bits!!!

Hi all, Thought I’d make a wee post to show off the cockerel I picked up recently - I’m sure he’s a bit of a mutt but I know he’s a bantam of some sort (he’s much smaller than all the hens). I was thinking he could be part silkie because of his feather texture but then again he doesn’t have the...

    new cockerel rejected by flock?

Hi all, I recently rehomed a bantam cockerel (6 months old) and introduced him to my flock. but unfortunately things aren't going as well as I'd pictured! it seems the hens have no interest in him whatsoever - he'll show them food, sound alarms for big birds, etc etc but the hens just arent...

Can a bantam silkie rooster rate with a medium sized hen?

Hi all, Today I picked up a rooster from a lady needing to get rid and I have plans to breed him with some of my girls. I have three in mind - a barred hybrid, a light Sussex and a leghorn. The only issue is the rooster is very small and has been pushed around quite a bit from the bigger hens...
