    Adding a rooster

Thank you. They say they’re getting rid of him due to too many roosters and he was a surprise hatch they had, so we will see. These are all excellent things to look for so thank you so much!!

    Adding a rooster

Yes that’s when our girls do the most damage to each other. 😂

    Adding a rooster

We will quarantine him in our garage at night and put a fenced in temporary area for him during the day, we have 5 acres so he will be about 100 yards from the girls. Although I hadn’t thought of blowing dander or if the girls are out then wandering to his area. It’s the best we can do for now...

    Adding a rooster

Thank you for this. Our main goal of having him is for protection . We like to free range our girls and any extra help is what we need. We have good space for him and we lost a hen to a fox so he will occupy her space. My goal is to put a wire dog pen in a spot in their run for a week or two...

    Adding a rooster

Thank you we have a wire dog cage that I will put in their run to separate and I was thinking at night of putting him into our pet carrier and then put him on the roost at night? This of coarse after quarantine. Not sure if that’s the right move or not

    Adding a rooster

We are going to check him out today in his environment and go from there, I was hoping for some sound advice before since we are not familiar with having a rooster but we like to free range and any extra help with our girls is what we want. What are some things that would make you say no to...

    Adding a rooster

Hi all! I have a flock of 11 hens. 3 barred rock, 3 jersey giants, and 5 gold laced Wyandottes. We have decided we’d like to add a rooster. We have found one that is a cross between a Australorp and a true blue whiting and he is about 5-6 months old. Our girls turned a year in February. Our main...

    Throwing straw on her back

I just posted the same question and then saw yours! We have a little gal who is doing the same thing. She walks around putting straw or shavings on her back away from her nest.

    Odd behavior

I have a little Gold Lace Wyandotte who is 21-22 weeks old and she has just started laying eggs. She won’t use the nesting boxes but has built herself a nest in between our boxes and has pulled the straw out of the boxes and taking shavings from the coop floor and puts them on her back. I first...

Help! New to chickens. After lots of research settled on Barred rocks because they are doile and are said to accept new members into the flock. Have

I agree with all you’re saying. We do not have our chickens for pets but we do have two Barred Rocks and two Jersey Giants that will come to my husband and I at night when we sit on our swing and watch the chickens peck 😊. They jump up on the swing in between us and lay down for pets, no food...

Our Barred Rocks are our sweeties. They’re friendly and sweet and funny. It’s our Gold Lace Wyandottes who are the little stinker pants! The Barred Rocks are my favorites along with our Black Jersey Giants.

    Commercial Poison (err... "Feed")

So happy to hear your chickens are doing better! I think homemade food is better than commercial anyway. Keep on posting 😊.

    Moving outside- Any tips?

I’m new to chicken keeping as well and I got some really good advice from here and I followed it. I was nervous moving my babies outside (at 9 weeks) but they took to it like champs and I was proud of them. They even got on the top roost, all 12 of them the first night. I have a WYZE camera...

Review by 'JewelsJj' on item 'Jersey Giant'

I have recently purchased 3 Black Jersey Giants. I have with them 3 Barred Rocks and 6 Gold Lace Wyandottes. These girls are sweet and laid back. One of them, Annie loves to be on my lap or arm for pets and snuggles, and she doesn’t appreciate when I pay attention to others. My other 2 girls...

Review by 'JewelsJj' on item 'Plymouth Rock'

I have gotten 3 Barred Rocks, they’re 9 weeks old and the sweetest, friendliest birds. All 3 will sit on my lap or arm and snuggle in for pets. We have one girl Mabel, who’s so curious and funny. When transitioning to the coop from brooder ( brooder was inside ) we’d take them to the coop in a...

Why you should have Jersey giants and not shy away from their size

We have 3 Black Jersey Giants with our other girls, Barred Rocks and Gold Laced Wyandottes. Our giants seem to be the shy ones compared to the others, only one will let me pet her but she’s definitely a lap chicken and loves all her lap time. The other 2, one comes to me on her terms but no pets...
