I have neighbors with roosters but none of them are Leghorns. I'm hoping to get a grown leghorn rooster from somewhere so I can raise pure leghorns. All I can get from the hatcheries are new born chicks so I still wouldn't have a rooster until next year. There must be somebody around here...
I live in Panama City Florida, Actually I live just outside of Panama City in the country. I survived Hurricane Michael. The eye of the hurricane passed right over us at category 5 strength. Just about the whole city was destroyed, and we are only now, (about 5 month later), beginning to get...
I have acquired some new game fowl, two young stags, and two hens. The stags are 3/4 Oak Grove Yellow-legged Hatch and 1/4 Lieper Hatch. The hens are 1/2 Racy Mug, and 1/2 Lieper Hatch. I am posting some pictures of them. They are not very high quality pictures because I'm not that good at...
If any of you, who may be following along on this topic… are the frugal type [Not to say tight with your money… as am I] here is the link to a website that looks promising for getting a good grounding in chicken genetics. http://kippenjungle.nl/sellers/page0.html I am finding it to be just...
I found this article interesting.

I have studied genetics before... when I was raising horses... and I studied it some back when I was breeding tropical fish. I have got to locate more on...
Grabbing them to take the picture is a great idea. :) I never thought of that. Also the leg color on mine are the same as on yours... whereas the brown leghorns have legs that are more yellowish. (not much but noticeable). I wonder why mine has so much black on his head? By the leg color...
Today is lock down day for the shipped American Game Fowl eggs I'm incubating. Everything looks good up to lock down. Now all I have to do is to wait, and I shall see what happens. I'm hoping for a good hatch... but if any (at all) hatch I'll be happy with that. Considering how many attempts...
Taking pictures of chickens is not easy. They get nervous and run around constantly while you're trying to take the picture. I finally had to bribe them with food to get them to stand still, and even then some of them remained in hiding. But I managed to get some pictures which I edited a little...
I haven't got a clue how to train. I'm brand new. I do have a book though that supposedly I can learn from. :) Maybe now that I know you guys are here I can get some pointers over time. I'm just doing this as a hobby. My father used to tell me stories though!
I also have some shipped game fowl eggs I started incubating on July 6. There are 6 Miner Blue eggs, 2 Doc Robinson eggs, 2 Radiopullet eggs, 1 Racey Mug egg, and 1 Bacon Warhorse egg. Today is day 16, and I just finished candling them. It is looking good for most of them. I can't be sure about...
I bought fifteen baby chicks from cackle hatchery. They are six weeks old now. Five of the chicks were unsexed silver duck wing old English game fowl. Eight of the chicks were female Brown Leghorn's. And two were male Brown Leghorn. When I received the order there were actually eighteen chicks...
I had a successful hatched today 7/12/18 which needed much assistance. It had piped but the humidity was way too low, and the membrane around the pip had hardened. I carefully cracked the shell away from the hardened membrane around the pip. The remaining membrane was moist and pliable. I...
I once had a rooster unexpectedly jump up and spur me right in the side of the leg. I happen to be standing next to a wall and there was a long piece of rebar leaning against the wall. The next thing I knew the rooster was laying dead with a long piece of rebar sticking out of his side that I...
Of the seven shipped Regular Gray Game Fowl eggs I first placed in the incubator on 5/17/18, and have been reporting about in earlier posts, I removed one on the first candling (day five) because it had a blood ring. Of the other six, all had detached air sacs, and five appeared clear. Only one...
I live near Panama City Florida. Today we are experiencing a tropical storm. It's due to make landfall somewhat West of my location. But I am experiencing heavy rain falls off and on and occasional fairly strong gusting winds. I posted a week or so ago about the seven shipped English game fowl...
I just finished placing my seven shipped old English game fowl eggs that I received yesterday in the incubator. They spent the night in an egg carton pointy end down with no turning, as this is what I have been reading that others do with their shipped eggs to give the air sacs a chance to...
