The case of the missing eggs?

I don't know where you'd find them in the US. I think shipping from the UK might be too long for the eggs to remain viable, as they don't stand up well to posting. It could work if you flew over yourself, picked up the eggs from the farm on your last day and flew straight home with them well...

    Mixed age goslings?

I got mine from a farm in Yorkshire https://www.greentreefarmshetlands.co.uk/,a good choice if you're in the UK . Otherwise, search "Shetland goose hatching eggs" on eBay. My hatching rate wasn't brilliant from eggs by post - one out of three - but I have ended up with one goose and one gander.

    Introducing goslings

The little one still feels the cold, so I left them together for 10 minutes, during which they circled each other warily, then brought her in. I plan to put them together a little longer each day under strict supervision and hope they bond.

    Introducing goslings

Interesting, that exactly what Kadisha (6 week old goose) did when I put Samantha (4 days old) in with her. Maybe that's just how geese get to know each other - like dogs sniffing each others' bottoms? Come to think of it, perhaps that's the origin of the slang "goosing" someone meaning...

Here's Kadisha my Shetland goose, three weeks old and fighting the cat for the kitty litter - which to my horror she then started to eat!

The case of the missing eggs?

I feel your pain! I bought four Shetland goose hatching eggs and only one hatched out, but I still kept the other three in the incubator for a week hoping against hope that one at least would hatch, and I felt like a murderer when I finally threw them out.

How many hens to a drake?

Drakes are shockingly randy. I have five females to one drake, and he's still rushing around after them all day. He's especially keen on my little Indian runner, who's half his weight and has learnt to hide from him. The breeder I bought my ducks from said 1:5 is the minimum for the sake of the...

The case of the missing eggs?

I wondered about snakes too. When I lived in Queensland Australia we had a python swallow a whole chicken without trace, and we only found out because the kids found the snake sleeping it off in the bushes nearby with a chicken-sized bulge in its belly.

    UK Member Please Say HI

Hi, I'm Kate from East Sussex. I keep ducks in the back garden (Cherry Valleys, Indian runner and crosses) and have just branched out into geese. I got four Shetland goose hatching eggs but only one hatched, so I'm incubating four more in the hope of getting her a companion. I'd like to do...

    Mixed age goslings?

Thanks Miss Lydia, that's a good idea: she's growing unbelievably fast, so even if she loves the new hatchlings she could accidentally squash them! I'll divide the run as you suggest.

    Mixed age goslings?

I recently bought four Shetland goose hatching eggs: I wanted a pair of geese and was keen to help a rare breed. Only one of them hatched, a female whom we've named Kadeisha. I rang around to see if any of the few breeders had a gosling that I could buy as a companion, but none did. I...

I'm Kate from south-east England. I keep 11 ducks in my garden: an original Cherry Valley (commercial Pekins) flock of one drake and four ducks, an additional Indian runner because the children fell in love with her, and five mixed ducklings nearly a year old, including two drakes that I must...
