She has been like this for over a week now. As soon as I noticed her behavior I separated her. She will be 1 on Monday. No changes at all in terms of food, housing or flock. These girls have been together since day 1. She has not layed an egg for 2 weeks now. She is definitely losing...
Lee what ever happened to this hen. My girl is the SAME exact way right now and her poop looks the same. I don't know what to do with her. I spoon feed her 2 times a day.
How do you know if the eggs you collect have been frozen at all?
I collect eggs once a day and never even thought that some may have been frozen at one point.
Can you eat an egg that has been frozen? I usually collect my eggs and leave them on my counter. Should I be refrigerating because...
What is the proper technique to wash an egg?
I usually don't wash them unless there is poop on it.
And I refrigerate all my eggs.
What is the right way to do this?
Thanks!!
Hi All,
I have 8- 3 week old Barred Rocks and RI Reds. Over the weekend I gave them some worms we found outside and some mashed up hard boiled eggs. Was I supposed to give them grit with this? Are they going to get sick if I didn't?
Thanks!!
I have a dumb question.....If they say you should start at 90 degrees then decrease by 5 every week, should the whole brooder's temp be reading at 85 or should it just be the spot under the heat lamp reading that temp. Sorry - I am very new to this! :)
So my heat lamp is right in the middle heating the whole brooder. Should I move it so it's just heating on side of it?
Also, I've noticed that their peeping is louder lately. Is this normal as they get older?
On Sunday I moved the heat lamp up a little- It was time to decrease by 5 degrees. The chicks are eating and drinking normally but when they sleep they look like this..... Would you considered this huddling? Do you think they are cold? Thanks
I would love to follow this thread because I need some advice on this as well. My chicks are...well....chickens! They are scared of everything! I try to handle them daily so they get used to me but so far nothing! I stick my hand and and they run to the corner and hide. They won't even feed...
At what age can they go outside? I've read 4-5 weeks but living in New England you never know what you are going to get for weather. It could be 70 during the day and 30 at night.
Hello!
I am a newbie to owning chickens. I have 4 RI reds and 4 Barred rocks. They are about 2 weeks old and started perching yesterday :) For a brooder I am using a cardboard stove box and they all seem happy. Any tips about raising chicks?
