"We generally prefer them to acclimate to the changing weather."
It is a risk assessment for sure.
Each person will come down in a different place because of that.
I am a-ok with the options I chose based on my own risk assessment.
We built our coop with a couple of small vents in the bottom quarter of two walls, and a couple of larger vents at the roof line.
The nesting boxes and the roosts sit in between those vents so generally speaking the birds don't get hit directly with breezes unless they are on the floor of the...
We recently moved back to New England. Used to have a flock of 30 before we moved to NC. Now that we are back, we are interested in rebuilding our chicky stock. We have one barred rock, but we are kind of late to get chicks.
Anyone in NE who are looking to sell or re-home pullets/layers...
I have one that is stepping on its wings (not on its own feet). Someone on another thread mentioned that it might have splayed leg and to try wrapping a band-aid around both legs to get them to sit under the chick properly.
I am headed to the brooder now to try it out. I think that might do...
Wow. So maybe that is wrong with my little one. I just noticed last night that a vein or something from the egg was wrapped around its leg and it couldn't stand and its feet seem splayed. It is trying mightily to stand but can't seem to get it done.
I'll try the band-aid thing. It is only 3...
Turns out the eggs started hatching early last Friday morning. Some eggs appear to have not developed at all, but no surprise there with shipped eggs.
I will play with my humidifier before starting the next batch. Thanks so much for everyone's input. I appreciate it.
I will hook it back up later today and take a pic.
I am hesitant to mess with it since the eggs are at day 18-ish and as first time mama hen, I am fussing over every little thing with these eggs. Every day I feel like I killed them.
But I hear I am supposed to up the humidity at this point...
I did bits of both: I used the tubing that came with it (the middle piece, the part that goes through the incubator lid, and the tube that hangs in the water) and I cut new (the tube that goes from the unit to the tube in the incubator). It didn't matter. None of the tube is kinked and there...
That is worth a try.
I tried changing the height of the unit in relation to the incubator thinking that the vacuum suction wasn't working right, but that didn't seem to work. SMH. How hard can the physics of this be?
Thanks so much for your input.
I can't seem to get the humidifier to work. The water level is stagnant and the humidity is low the incubator.
I finally took the incubator off the humidifier and found another way to raise the humidity, but I'd like to figure out what is wrong. The tubing all looks good. I see no holes. Ran...
I have a Brinsea Octogon 20 Advance. Had some eggs shipped to me tip down.
How would I position those eggs in the incubator?
I see TONS of stuff about how to position them in egg cartons and homemade incubators but very little (and nothing definitive) about how to position them in an...
