Thanks for the encouragement and support (that's what I love about this forum) everyone! Danz, my story sounds similar to your weeding story. I was trying to clean up limbs from the back yard that perpetually fall out of my walnut tree (hate that tree) and putting them in the front yard to be...

I have 8 girls: 3 EEs, 1 Australorp, 1 sp. Sussex, 1 Lav Orp, 1 Blue Orp, and 1 Barnevelder. And, yes I am beyond frustrated! My hens that I have come to know and love have to go, and the HUGE chunk of dollars I spent building them a home will have to come down as well! GRRR!

North O.P. I have had hens for several years, but recently moved the coop to a different spot in the yard to "upsize" it, and now it can be seen from the street. The neighbors (that pass by regularly, and live next to me) thought it was cool to see that I had pet hens. But, unfortunately the...

Hello All! Haven't posted in a while, but check in regularly. Well, It's time for the tale of woes... busted by the city! I was trying to be incognito with the coop and had the ok from my neighbors to have hens, but thanks to a complaint about a totally unrelated issue the local code...

Cool coop! Now you just need to barter season lift passes with the hens for more eggs!

Danz, sorry to hear about the hit and run. That's just not very neighborly to run over someone's animal in the road and not stop to say sorry, at least.

Thanks danz! Was wondering, has anyone seen the Backyard chickens for the White House thread under Chicken Laws and Ordinances? I thought it was a pretty cleaver idea for promoting the backyard chicken cause.

    Peet moss in run?

Hi! I wouldn't use peat, it would be bad for the chickens to breath. Once they start scratching around in it there would be a lot of fine dust they kick up. Plus if it got wet, it would be very heavy and take a long time to dry out.

Thanks for all the welcomes! Seems like a great community you all have created here, glad to be a part of it. As to my current flock, I have one australorp, an EE, a speckled sussex, and a blue splash marans that never splashed- she's all white. The EE and australorp are laying very well right...

What treat did your chickies get today?

Just gave my girls a head of broccoli that I forgot was in the fridge, and was starting to get a little less than firm. Why do I keep putting things in that darn little drawer at the bottom of the fridge, I never remember to look in there! The girls loved the treat, though - gone in 20 min!

    Crowing hen

Maybe its a buff orpington thing? One of the first hens I had was a b.o. and her name was Dolly, appropriate as it turned out! That hen thought she was on stage at the Opry, or something cause she would break out into the loudest, longest squalky-crowy type song every day! And this was no egg...

    my pet chicken reviews

I would like to share my MPC experience. I have ordered from them several times over the years, and have been happy with them each time. They have a great website that lets you see clearly what is or isn't available and when they can be shipped. Some have commented on high shipping, and that I...

Wow, why hasn't this been thought of before? A great idea for giving backyard chickens some good press. It makes way more sense than petitioning the White House for a Deathstar! Sign me up!
