    pipping early

I'd say they are right on time. It generally takes awhile after pipping for them to hatch & actual hatching of individuals can vary a bit too. If they pipped early on the 21st day & everything is correct, especially humidity, I'd expect they to be completely hatched by tonight.

The majority of my poor babies were shrink wrapped!! Anyone have any idea why??

Generally speaking, if the chicks shrink wrap, there wasn't sufficient Humidity, no matter what the gage is reading

    Lyon electric TX-7

Actually all of them are now Solid State. The Roll-X & the TX6, came new with it & the TX-4 I converted. It had a Wafer/snap switch system in it when I got it. I used the TX4 for a long time with the wafer system & it worked fine, but YES the Solid State is more accurate. It generally holds...

    Lyon electric TX-7

Hey Carla (Smoky) how ya doing? OlandskMama, You'll do well taking her advice. I've had Lyon Incubators for 30 years & all of them are still running. I've updated them & replaced some parts but they are extremely reliable & accurate. I started with a TX4 & a RollX & then bought a new...

    Recommendation for a temperature controller

While I've always insisted on accuracy, I don't understand why you would want to change a controller that, in fact, is accurate to + or - 1 degree Celsius. You hatched 10 of 16 eggs which is actually pretty good, especially for the first time. While I've never used this type of controller I...

    An oops with the incubator

If you can tell if an egg is fertile at 3 days, you either have experience or a good eye. I've done it, but on light shelled eggs. On darker shelled eggs I've found that 5 to 7 days is a lot easier. (But I've been incubating for 30 years & I've learned about patience )

    Hatching issues

Quote: Anyone that thinks "store bought" Tomatoes are Tomatoes has never tasted a real home grown one. The ones you get in a store are just disgusting. The may be red (probably from chemicals), but that's about it. I don't know that growing your own corn is the answer, but I do believe it...

    Help with Incubator settings

I can't tell you what humidity to use. I would start with what the manufacturer recommends & adjust from there. You need to know what the air cell should look like at 10 to 15 days into the incubating process, but that takes experience. (We've all gone through it) The 80-82 wet bulb...

    Hatching issues

Quote: Not sure when, but isn't that about the time the feed manufactures got the bright idea to go to "all vegetarian diets" in poultry feeds? The question being, is the decline in egg production due to GMO'S or Veggie diets?

    An oops with the incubator

It is possible the one in the bottom doesn't have the air circulating around it the upper one does so your not getting the same reading. In addition, if you didn't calibrate both thermometers, there just may be a difference between the 2. I'd go with the glass one. 105 is a bit high, but you...

Gee Laura, why don't you ask Mike Gilbert ???

    Help with Incubator settings

It depends on the humidity setting you want. If you want 50% RELATIVE humidity, the setting on a wet bulb would be 84degrees.

Heating Element in LG incubator stopped

It does sound like there is a short somewhere. If you can see the wiring, start moving wires & see if you can determine which wire is loose & then figure out how to tighten it ----- Only thing I can suggest

Heating Element in LG incubator stopped

I know this is a dumb question, but did you try adjusting the thermostat ???

    Little Giant Fan Noise

Oiling a fan motor is not difficult as long as the fan is out of the incubator. Oiling them properly generally means dis-assembling the motor. HOWEVER, you can try to oil them (as best you can) . There is normally not much clearance between the motor portion & the bearings & oiling the upper...

Redwood incubator, Montgomery Ward (Leahy) problems, need someone local if possible

I agree with LOVEOURBIRDS. I think you have the heat adjustment out to far. With the incubator off (unplugged) & cooled, loosen the wing nut, just a bit, & turn the adjustment to the right (clockwise). You should be able to hear a slight "click" as the wafer comes into contact with the snap...

    So many Questions!

Sorry you had a bad experience. There was nothing you could have done that would have helped the chick that hatched. There shouldn't have been much blood at all. It is also to late to get a Hygrometer/Hydrometer to measure humidity. There is supposed to be a certain amount of humidity...

Does raising the temperature in an incubator help the chicks to hatch quicker?

Most of the examples I gave do not happen with a LITTLE difference in temperature. If you run 1, 1-1/2 degree higher or lower you will probably not see any of the results shown. It's when you have 2, 3 or 4 degrees above or below 99.5 you can run into a multitude of problems. It takes an even...

OK, is anybody here experienced with the Sportsman 1202 inky?

When you get the mouse issue taken care of & the wiring fixed you should wash out the inside with some Clorox & water to clean & disinfect the whole incubator. You can do this just by vacuuming it out & wiping it down getting it as clean as possible. The time you spend on cleaning it will pay...

Does raising the temperature in an incubator help the chicks to hatch quicker?

Depending on the temperature you want to run, this is some of the POSSIBLE problems with running temps to high: Early Dead Dead embryo, second week Dry Chicks Chicks dead after piping shell Malformed legs & toes Weak Chicks Malposition
