    sick chicken laboured breathing help!

Just an update... It's been a week and my chicken hasn't improved. Her breathing is still very laboured and lethargy is playing a big part in her ability to get around. She's still eating and drinking and pooping but eating and drinking is difficult as this requires her airway to be shut off...

    sick chicken laboured breathing help!

Hi thanks for your reply! This morning her crop was relatively back to normal but she still had a small rock hard lump there and her breathing was still strained. I watched her on the IP cameras all night and she was really struggling to breath and while she went up to roost with the others...

    sick chicken laboured breathing help!

Hi experts! I have a 22wk old exchequer leghorn hen who I've noticed was just a bit out of sorts 2 days ago. She's the bottom of the pecking order so always the last in the fight for scratch etc so the fact she was not the most active wasn't out of the ordinary. the second thing I saw was...

    Any ideas on this breed?

Hi, this is my 7wk old boy (I think?), any ideas of breed. Hatched from cream coloured egg from memory. Was thinking GL Wyandotte? Just not sure what a Wyandotte at 7 weeks should look like- doesnt seem to have any gold lacing on him/her. [/IMG]

    Welsummer hen or rooster? Help!!

Hope you're right with the Araucana, my guess(wishful thinking) has been a hen, she has very different characteristics & behaviours to the others, very shy, so fingers crossed! We'll see how things go with the Roos! Thanks for the advice :)

    Welsummer hen or rooster? Help!!

Is it at all possible for several Roos to live together harmoniously? Or am I asking too much. I would guess not but the Welsummer & leghorn are inseparable & have been raised independently from the flock(they were rejected chicks by a broody who only wanted 2 babies). They're all slowly...

    Welsummer hen or rooster? Help!!

Thanks everyone. Here's the Araucana, absolutely no idea what it is, hopefully not 4 from 4 cockerels!! This chick is very wary, timid & runs under mumma hen when scared. Please be a hen.

    Welsummer hen or rooster? Help!!

Wow, very interesting. Thanks for all that! Of my other 3 chicks I suspect I have 2 roosters, so that totals 3 of 4. Unlucky odds. The Araucana is way off sexing age but the exchequer leghorn I'm pretty sure is a rooster. 7 weeks old. Photo not great. And the GL Wyandotte I'm pretty sure is a...

    Welsummer hen or rooster? Help!!

Thanks for all the advice, fingers crossed he stays quiet a while longer. Still only peeping, not even chirping yet & loves a cuddle. Hope he stays sweet. What age do they usually start getting vocal? The breeder i got him from does take roosters back so he has a second home....if needed :(

Yay! She had the "Cleopatra eyeliner" markings & very strong dark V on her head as a chick & was sexed by the breeder as a female, I've thought female all this time until these black feathers started developing on her chest & I've started freaking out that i have a roo! No saddle feathers yet to...

    Welsummer hen or rooster? Help!!

I thought that might be the case :( I'd seen some photos online of welsummer hens that had an almost black/gold laced chest & hoped mine was just turning out like them. Maybe not. Well I just hope he takes a long time to start crowing. He has a beautiful nature & I don't want to give him up, not...

Hi there, I'm new to this site as a member but have been following threads posted here for years and found people's knowledge and advice to be outstanding. I have kept backyard chooks since I was a kid & currently have 6 chickens (unfortunately only 6 due to council reg's). I've got a silver...

    Welsummer hen or rooster? Help!!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the sex of this 7 week old welsummer? First thoughts based on his/her marking as a chick was female and the partridge feathers make me think female but these black chest feathers are making me think rooster?? Maybe still to young to tell? Any...
