I'm hoping to let them go outside in the run (separated from the older pullets) so that they can interact with the others through the fence. I'm worried that they'll get coci though since they aren't on medicated feed. The run itself is huge and there isn't a ton of feces in it as we just...
Hi Everybody, and Welcome new peeps!!! Been busy here but the chicks are doing well. We still have 8 after losing the one to accident. They're really starting to feather out and should be ready to start integration out to the coop in about a week or so.
I agree, I'd put them in the garage unless it is in a bad enough state of disrepair that they're likely to get wet or the wind blows through. Otherwise put an extra heat lamp or MHP out for them. Also what are you using for bedding? We used puppy pads the first 3 days to make sure they were...
Thanks everyone, it's amazing how fast you get attached to the lityle fluff balls. Fortunately it was accidental and not disease so I feel confident for the others.
Sadly we lost a chick today, our little RIR didn't make it. They really do try and find new ways to kill themselves daily. I'll give her a proper burial once the storm clears out.
2/6+8 but we moved the chicken coop yesterday and that probably stressed them a bit. But the coop is back where it belongs and they won't have to move again. Stupid re-grading of the lawn........
We feed unmedicated chick feed to everyone and just provide oyster shell for those who need the extra calcium. Saves me from having to buy separate feeds and trying to keep the chicks from eating the layers feed once they're out in the run with them.
We have tons of sand which the adults dust bathe in regularly but I was going to put a dedicated tub in their run for them for days they can't be free ranged. We just re-seeded the lawn after extensive landscaping so they're stuck in the run for at least two weeks. It's quite large but they're...
Question about the DE? I was going to mix some with wood ash for their dust bath but if it will cause more harm than good what would you suggest for a feed tub dustbath? Wood ash and sand?
We have a blue Americauna (sp?) but that one was already spotted and accounted for. We have 17 total and 13 of them were easy to match to their breed the only unknown that arrived was the one chick and of course EE don't have a set chick look so those 4 are the ones I'm not 100% sure on...
Chick D legs
Chick C legs
Just in case that makes a difference. Thanks for your help. I was thinking I was pretty safe if I marked the puffy cheeked ones as EE.
