Anyone here from Corrales? Bernalillo? Rio Rancho? I'm living in Rio Rancho now in suburbia due to circumstances beyond my control, and cannot keep chickens in that location. My flock, consisting of 7 Ameraucana hens, I Ameraucana roo and I Golden Comet hen, is still back in southern NM. At...
Oops- got the Wheatens from Paul Smith. Makes me so sad to rehome all my chickens. I think I'll have to have somebody else be the one to deliver or be present at pick up because I'm afraid I'll start crying. : (
I have a flock of Swedish Flower Hens and a flock of Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas I must rehome. I may ask for a nominal amount of money, as I spent so much on these birds, but that will be negotiable. Most important is that they go to someone who will take good care of them.
I am...
In my experience, Brinsea is by far the easiest to use and I've had extremely successful hatches from my little mini. They are quite expensive though. I couldn't afford a big one- not now anyway.
One of my hens just went broody- today. Has anyone ever transferred eggs from the bator to the underside of a hen? I'd rather she do it 'cause she does a better job than I do. The seven eggs I'm thinking about have only been in the Farm Innovator since the morning of April 11. I can't think...
Thanks folks for the help! It is greatly appreciated.
Removed the scrambled egg from the Brinsea. Don't want any exploding eggs!
Glad some flucuation in temp does not mean certain death. I have managed to get it at 99.3. Guess I'll leave it there. I kinda did a "feel" test comparing...
I bought a new Farm Innovators Model 4200 circulating air 'bator with automatic egg turner. I cannot get the temp consistent to save my life! It's either 98 F or 100 F- and on occasion 99.1. No matter how gently I turn the knob I can never achieve 99.5. Using a digital thermometer. Anyone...
With my hens the eggs got bigger when they were well over a year old, like a year and three months to a year and a half. You might give them a few more months.
Well, we have a very contented little chick this morning, sitting under the wing of her stuffed duck "mommy." Not peeping loudly, but making soft, happy chick sounds. Thanks for the good advice!
Yeah- that's a good idea. We have a soft stuffed duckie that never gets played with- the boys will never miss it. I fixed up a bigger box for her and I'll put the duckie in there. I attached a light, too, for warmth. She is feathering out on her wings but has a ways to go on her body...
I went to the feed store the other day- to buy feed and bedding- and passed by the area where they had leftover "easter" chicks. There were three of what appear to be Golden Comet pullets in one of the pens and two of them were really going to town on the smallest one. Her little wings and her...
No sores under or around the hock. Oddly, ankle started to swell too. This is a grown hen, of course. I ended up keeping her on our screened-in porch, away from the pickers. Tried to manipulate the tendon or massage it into place but she'd flinch really badly so i just gave up. She was...
NONE of my eggs hatched! I got a new Farm Inovators circulating air 'bator, with automatic egg turner. I let DH adjust the thermometer- I think he measured it against a couple thermometers we had- one for the kids and also a digital meat thermometer. Too hot in there I think.
Plus...
