What a fun and funny thread! The thing that drives me the most crazy is mine lay eggs everywhere! I have perfectly good chicken boxes and they lay them on the ground or in the goat part of the barn or in the bag that I get the shavings from! Every now and then I really have to hunt when I can't...
My dad loves to tap maple trees and this year he tried to tap his sycamores. They did not produce a lot of sap so I can't say if it's good. Next year we are planning on tapping some walnut trees. Otherwise we got lots of yummy syrup from the maple trees!
Update on the little turkey. So she has no problem eating and drinking. We have her on poultry cell and electrolytes and water rotating every 3 days. We have her legs hobbled she seems to not be bothered by it but can't move easily or fast but still gets around fine. When we take the hobble off...
Does anyone know why the brown chicken picture number #3 doesn't have a tail? I know her feathers are there but she doesn't have the classic chicken tail.
Hello this will be my first winter with chickens and I was wondering what I should do to get ready for winter? They live in a barn with goats and free range in the pasture. I am not sure if the barn will be warm enough for there normal water container. Or if I should get a heater for the outside...
As I was closing up the barn for the night one of the barn kitties jumped up and made a bed in the nesting box! I thought it was pretty cute and wanted to share!
Hello! I have a small flock of chickens and I was wondering if anyone knew what kinds they are? I was told the black ones are orpingtons I know the white fluffy one is a silky. The Tanish light brown ones lay light blue eggs so I'm guessing they are Easter eggers. But I don't know the rest. I...
I may try that because the hobble makes me so sad. We are hoping the hobble would force the leg to start growing in the right direction. So maybe we will hobble her for a little longer and see if it's working.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
First time chicken owner. We have 9 chickens that we got as pullets at a swap meet and love every minute of it!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 9
(3) What breeds do you have?
I'm not sure but would love to find out...
This is what she looks like we have her on the poultry cell water and have rehobbled her leg with a straw between her hocks to help keep the one out. She is hopping around fine for now and not having problems eating or drinking so I am really hoping the hobble helps correct her leg. It breaks my...
She did say that splay leg was uncommon in turkeys but she still thought that's what it was. Do you recommend vitamins and turkey feed? Or do you think it's too late? I plan on trying to help her until she doesn't get up any more or seems to be in pain.
So an update. I was able to find a vet who would see her. (At first I couldn't find any vets who would see turkeys so I ended up asking our local 4-H office and they gave me a list of vets and I found one. So anyone looking for a vet try talking to the 4-H office they were so helpful!) the vet...
