    Chick Identification [Pyncheon Bantam]

Yes, these came from Hoover's. These three look good so far, their crops are currently stuffed to max capacity so they definitely have a healthy appetite lol

    Chick Identification [Pyncheon Bantam]

They do look similar, not quite as red. They are only 4 days old, maybe they'll start looking more like Pyncheon as they grow. Strangely I couldn't find the breed on the hatchery's website that the feed store gets our chicks from (or any chicks that look like the ones we received).

    Chick Identification [Pyncheon Bantam]

I've noticed two out of the three don't have the black spots on their backs and are more reddish instead of yellow, perhaps alluding to the "proper" mille fleur color

    Chick Identification [Pyncheon Bantam]

Yeah I couldn't find a match online either...it would be cool if they are Pyncheon Bantams, it'd be nice to help a rare breed thrive. I'll definitely update this forum as they grow.

    Chick Identification [Pyncheon Bantam]

Got some bantam chicks with top knots and silver lacing on the wings. Thought they were silver laced polish at first but the chick pictures online don't match. They have pink legs and what looks like single combs. They are hatchery stock if that makes a difference.

Chick arrived just skin and bones

The Culprit. An Old English Game Bantam that is a day older than Poppy (the gray one). He is apparently obsessed with me. If I'm not beside the pen he will be screaming at headache inducing levels constantly. Whenever the door is open he'll jump into my lap and even chase my hands wanting me to...

Chick arrived just skin and bones

Status report for today: moved her inside and playing chick videos for her until I can get her a buddy of the same age. Crop is filled halfway. She's done some more pooping since the start of this forum, little digestive tract is working Edit: roommate has arrived with the buddy chick who is...

Chick arrived just skin and bones

The way it works at our store: we get 2 shipments of birds every week, totaling several hundred chicks that we sell out of by the weekend (very high-volume store). The hatcheries don't notify us when they ship, they just send whatever extras they have. We only know we've got birds when the post...

Chick arrived just skin and bones

I am not sure what happened, I don't have any of that information. I work at a feed store mostly as a cashier but the "sick chicks" are typically tossed to me. Yesterday a kind lady from the post office went out of her way to drop them off at the store, apparently the chicks had been sitting at...

Chick arrived just skin and bones

I don't know who messed up, be it the store or the post office but a box of 25 chicks arrived—half of them DOA. 12 chicks were put in the sick tank yesterday and this is the only one left. I'm guessing at least 4 days old when the post office dropped them off. She is very thin, you can easily...

Is my eldest hen starting to decline?

We had a really hot day recently, the "feels like" temperature peeked at 110°F. It was hard on her, she got very dehydrated that day and her comb turned a very pale sickly pink. Took 3 days to get her back to health, she hates being handled and was not happy about having indoor time. Lots of...

Is my eldest hen starting to decline?

Anyone have experience treating chicken arthritis/managing the symptoms? I've had some people suggest stuff like coconut oil or absorbine veterinary horse liniment gel. Any other recommendations or what works best for you?

Is my eldest hen starting to decline?

I said "supposedly" because that is the rough average several sites claim for this particular breed. But, of course, this can vary depending on care/genetics.

Is my eldest hen starting to decline?

Yes to all. A little slower but still free-ranges with the flock and still takes her job as "Boss Hen" very seriously. I might've jumped the gun a bit, but better to be overly cautious than sorry 😓

Is my eldest hen starting to decline?

I did think it was more related to arthritis at first but then her droopy comb was making me overthink it. Perhaps it's this heat being tougher on an older gal

Is my eldest hen starting to decline?

My eldest bird in the flock is a Midnight Majesty Maran named Jessie who will be turning 5 on July 20th. She's always been the top hen in the pecking order and has maintained that position all her life, earning her the nickname "The Matriarch". Supposedly MMMs live for 5-8 years, but I haven't...

Is this a Mallard or Rouen duckling?

Oh, I did not know that! All digits accounted for. I thought Rouen at first due to the face markings but she still seems so small compared to the Pekin and Buff Orpington ducklings of the same age

Is this a Mallard or Rouen duckling?

Not too familiar with either breed. Thoughts? They are 2 weeks old (hatchery stock)
