Ameraucana Cockerels - Bantam and LF

Ameraucana Cockerels (roosters) free to a good home. These are show quality breeder birds, not hatchery birds or easter eggers. These are extras from buying 4H showbird chicks from a few ABC breeders. They are about 14-15 weeks old. We have 2 Bantam (smaller) Wheatens and 1 large fowl Blue. We...

Ameraucana Variety - White or Splash?

Thanks, I think the issue is if she is a white she will show in AOSB class and if she is splash she will be in the Barnyard class. The entry form wants to know. Since she is from a BBS pen, I will just put her down as Splash. She will be about 17-18 weeks at fair time.

Ameraucana Variety - White or Splash?

She is a she. we have 20 or so Ameraucana's and the boys are certainly boys and girls are certainly girls at this point. In the past we have wondered about age, but this is our third show and as long as they are not doing chick chirps they are old enough to show (at least around here).

Ameraucana Variety - White or Splash?

We have a 4H show coming up and Liam (Owen's 6 year old brother) wants to show "Snow Ball" as one of his confirmation birds. Snow Ball is a 15 week old Ameraucana. We are pretty sure she came from a BBS pen, I need to get a hold of the breeder to confirm. We know Splash is not a recognized...

Mold on top of Fermented Feed?

I know this post is an old post, but I am having the exact same problem. We started a 5 gallon bucket ferment feeder. We were scooping a bowl full out each day and feeding it. They loved it. We would then add some more feed and water more water. We did this for about two weeks. Came out one...

I don't know how people keep poultry without free ranging them

Until something eats the turkey! We have far too many predators. We lost 7 of 12 in one cougar (or bobcat, still not certain) attack.

    Run and breeding pens plan

We are planning on expanding our flock. Owen wants to start breeding and raising meat birds for 4h. The perimeter fence will be a 5-6' multi wire hot fence . We plan on around 25 - 30 layers, and 4-5 roosters. We want to try meet birds as well, not sure if we have them all the time or just a...

    Bear attack!

If we are talking black bear, which we most likely are, you do not need to be gunned that big. A 30.30 will do just fine or a bow. Black bear are soft skinned animals and very easy to penetrate. The bear will keep coming back. If you do decide to eat it, get a nice salami recipe. Pretty dang good!

Pullet chick attacked by falcon - injured

Update. She is still alive and kicking, showing improvement. She is eating and drinking. She is not the happy, social bird that she was. She has some obvious issues, holding her head funny, she bounces her head around with a little tick, and she just seems out of it. Here is a short video from...
