    homemade auto coop door

Seems to me that the cool thing about a horizontal door would be that it will push the crap that the chickens track into the door jam.You could makeit so that it stuff just gets pushed out and back into the coop or run.

Watering Cups With no Water in Them.

I had to use a pen and put little dots on the trigger to get mine to start using their cups. Sounds like you might have figured out your problem already though with the PVC smell though.

Here is what I came up with when I was having the same issue. Pretty much zero waste that I can tell. I have one in the coop and one in the run. Just made it from some leftover plywood from the coop build.

    Not using the roost

If your impatient like I was then you can put a 2x4 on the floor and then just step it up a little higher and higher each week. Seemed like my pullets didnt like the tallest roost till like 14 weeks. I had to step them up as I think it was just to high for them.

    Cup waterer

Havent used the 2 L bottle myself but principal looks sound. Seems like 2 L is kinda small as my 1 L brooder waterer needed filling once a day with 5 chicks. I use the cups in my coop on a bucket set-up that hangs from the ceiling of my coop (4x6 footprint). I did have a problem with one of the...
