Strange disorder - Any help please?

Hi, One of my two year old hens who has always been healthy suddenly went very quiet and off her food. She was happily foraging around the garden with the rest of the flock and the next day I noticed that she remained perched in the coop all alone. She seemed a bit jumpy and she wouldn't move...

Youngest hen eye pecked by other chickens, and now has one mild foamy eye.

Hi, if it's mycoplasma then the antibiotics are usually added to the water. Mycoplasma causes respiratory disease and foamy eye is one of the symptoms. Denagard is a good broad spectrum antibiotic that we use in the UK and the whole flock is treated together. Look it up online. We also use...

Curled Toes Developed Overnight! Help please.

I've checked with my poultry vet. He said it's more likely to be genetic rather than Mareks or it's the bird putting on too much weight too quickly. Thanks for your replies.

No probs. keep a close eye to see if any other symptoms develop. Also keep a watch on the other hens eyes over the coming weeks just in case. Mycoplasma has an incubation period. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

Youngest hen eye pecked by other chickens, and now has one mild foamy eye.

Hi, foamy eye is often indicative of 'mycoplasma' which is a respiratory disease. However, it could also mean other things, and given that she was pecked in that eye it may be a reaction to the pecking (not sure though). If it is mycoplasma, you should isolate her and decide whether to treat...

Curled Toes Developed Overnight! Help please.

Hi thank you for your replies. The flock already has multivitamins in their water as they were recently treated with antibiotics for mycoplasma. I read that curly toe syndrome can be caused by a deficiency in B2 Riboflavin. Should I administer this particular vitamin to this cockerel alone? If...

Curled Toes Developed Overnight! Help please.

Hi, One of my young cockerels was perfectly fine and healthy, but overnight he developed curled toes and cannot walk on his feet. He stumbles around though. I really don't know what has caused this. We did have mycoplasma in the flock recently but he showed no clinical symptoms, although he...

Sudden illness - spreading through flock - Help please!

Thanks yes they've now been started on antibiotics. No there's no bad smell coming from their head area - the discharge from their nostrils is clear too. I'm hoping I caught this in time. This Dengard antibiotic is supposedly also able to prevent/control vertical transmission in breeding. It's...

Sudden illness - spreading through flock - Help please!

Thank you for your replies. It does look quite scary really how rapid it spreads through the flock. I just took two of them to the vet (who is a poultry specialist vet). He said it's likely to be either infectious bronchitis or mycoplasma. The cockerel was given an injection in his breast to...

Sudden illness - spreading through flock - Help please!

Hi, One of my most active cockerels has suddenly become quite disshevelled and looks miserable. He has swelling under his eye and swelling in only one of his wattles. His face is also pale and I think there is some clear discharge from his nostrils. His eyes are clear but his crow is not his...
