Memories of Summer—2025
Ends October 5th, 2025
What did you do over the summer on your farm or residence? Did you add a new species of poultry or livestock and how did that go? Did you build a new coop or barn...
This is a good point. We do rely on the seller to let us know when their offering has been sold or is otherwise no longer available, but if they neglect to do so, there is not much we can do, although I am working on options for that.
We remove those when we see them and they are reported more often than not. BYC maintains a standard of kindness and a welcoming attitude towards new members and those who might accidentally reply to an older thread.
Disagree. There is good info there that might help someone in the same situation. One person’s irrelevancy or annoyance is another person’s information goldmine. If you don’t find it valuable to you, just scroll by.
And calling them out here is an example of the unkindness I was talking about.
Exactly. An old thread is not an irrelevant thread. Experience counts and is valuable. Chickens have been getting sick for millennia. It ain't new.
This is my point. No one was hatched knowing the nuances of every little thing. There is a way to help and a way to be rude to a new (or old)...
We should not be discouraging new members from replying to old threads. Just because a thread is old, it doesn't mean it doesn't have good information. BYC was built on the experience of members from years back. And that means some threads are old.
We should be welcoming to new members, not...
If there is anything you know we do have for sale, like PFMs to gift to someone or a Raising Chickens for Dummies book or just to inquire about something, send me a private message and I'll see if we have it and get you a cost. I can invoice you and send it out. :)
Kind of, or they could be on the outside too. Or the posts could be on the outside and the trellis on the inside, though it’s all hypothetical until hubby actually starts building the beds.
Oh no! Sorry that happened! Maybe a t-post on the outside of each corner post to keep them from shifting? Can you bang them back into place with a sledgehammer?
When (if) we ever get some pallet beds made, my plan was to put a t-post or 2 on each side to attach trellises to as well as to...
How’s everyone’s gardens doing?
I picked our first few half ripe tomatoes. I don’t trust the crows. I have more peas, radishes, dill, salad onions, carrots and turnips planted. Strawberries, green beans and cukes are coming on well.
Not too sure about the turnips. My sweet aunt told me they...
It's perfectly ok for people to ask questions. It's also ok if you don't want to answer. There are plenty of other who will. We will never make people search for something before asking a question. We were all new to chickens once and new to the internet, too for that matter. We want to...
So I tried a nasturtium flower. It really didn’t have any taste, but had a pleasant feel. Apparently you make pesto with it. How colorful would that be?
Oh, I removed the top floor of my California quail tenants abode to put in my garden beds. They will have to do without the penthouse view. They still have a sizable pile of branches to live in.
