Up the protein I used multi flock 22% thru 7 weeks and processed them all at 7 weeks largest was just over 9 pounds and smallest just over 5 pounds processed. the weigfhts your showing I had on some at 4-5 weeks.
but I personally if I do them again will process at 6 weeks for a avg weight of...
Wow what an Experience I am glad that I did this so I know what it takes to raise your own meat chickens. But let me state that this most likely will be my last time doing so at least for the near future.
7 weeks ago I purchased 25 day old Cornish X chickens. I started them in 2 brooders...

Ever use a kill cone much easier and drains the blood very fast.
Habibs put the chicken/rooster head down with a broom stick over their neck then step on the broomstick and pull up. I find it one of the lesser ways to dispatch a fowl. I think the kill cone method for me works the best.
It seems that the bigger ones (Roos) have a pale color to the smaller roos so I processed 2 of them last night and will do 2 each night until done. I am happy with the sizes as there are only 2 of us in the household. After losing the one yesterday and processing the 3 I did this week I have 17...
Here is a picture of mine. I lost one last night so I am going to process some each night this week and finish them off this weekend. Oh and I took this picture before I moved them last night I move the tractor each day
So the other day we ran out of Chicken in the freezer and I decided to process a few chicken early 4.5 weeks to restock up the fridge.
I processed 4 radom ones the lowest weight cleaned was 4 pounds 1 ounce and the largest 5 pounds 3 ounces. those seem a little big for my understanding.
Does...
I should have added that I am on week 4 on my first batch, my next batch will be started next week and my third batch will start at the end of september
Heat man I wish last night was 33 degrees I lost one 2 days ago 4 weeks old and it got down to 28 degrees.
todays high is 62 degrees we dont get 100 degree days at least until july and then only 3-5 days total per year. But this has me thinking freedom rangers for my summer batch
This year I am going to do 3 batchs with the first batch doing 24 second batch 40 and the thrid and final batch 40 as well. I am splitting the costs with another person on these so I end up with half the chicken and they pay for 2/3 of everything as I do all the work and we split the work on...
Again as I stated each to their own. If I built that it would have filled right up to the top with snow during the blizzard as we had drifts over 6 ft and I would have chickencicles
I will stay with what I got, looks cool just does not make sense to me. Not saying it dont work
Each to their own. Different folks different strokes
I think by insulating them it will help keep some of the day warmth from the sun in there as well as their boddy heat and deep litter methose helps warm it up as well. my coops are ventilated. I see you are in MD I am in CT it gets much...
So my second set of 9 layers are 3-4 weeks old time to start on the coop. this past Friday I started the coop is 5X8 kind of liek the purina mills plan. I learned my lesson from my mistakes from my first coop. My first mistake was totally building not where it will be put. Kind of heavy to move...
I am insulating both my coops. this past winter was brutal on us in CT sub zero temps and all of them got frost bitten on their combs. sure it grew back I just felt bad for them so bad in fact most days they stayed inside the coop by their choice.
The way my property is and where I want them I cannot put them side by side but they will be end to end at least that is ok. Either way not much changes But I plan on to make both runs 8X20 it will increase the current chickens run by 32 sq ft give them more room.
I wish I had more room I...
