I've got a big 2yo hen who last laid Tuesday. Wednesday she was kind of sluggish, not her normal, quick self. I brought out the treats and she ran over and ate, so I thought maybe she was just having an off day. So yesterday, I saw that she was pretty still in the yard, kind of squatting. Hadnt...
I'm sorry to hear about your pigeons! It's really a sweet bird, I just feel terrible because it is so afraid of us. I know wild birds can carry diseases, but I would assume by now it wouldn't be loving it if had anything. Thanks for your input!
Hi! So there's been this pigeon hanging around the yard for the last two weeks. It eats and drinks out of the food and water we have for the chickens in the yard, and also goes into the coop and eats. Basically it just hangs out with my chickens all day. A few nights ago, we went to shut the...
My little chicken is still alive. She's gained some weight, but she's still SO skinny. Breast bone is protruding. She's sitting with me right now enjoying a treat of spaghetti. :) She's still eating pretty ravenously, so that's good! She's still not super interested in her food. But she's eating...
She seems to be rallying a bit. She is perky this morning, no new fluid accumulation, just what was there, and her tail is up. She's eating watermelon, yogurt, and scratch, as well as some oatmeal with her food mixed in. She's otherwise sort of uninterested in her food at the moment. But...
It's like internal laying. Don't know what to do for the poor gal. Hoping that getting her insides calmed down helps her to get it all out. I know the chances are slim, but I owe it to her to try. My heart is just broken for this girl. She still purrs at me (quieter than usual) and I know she's...
There's yolk around her vent, and she's been pooping little poops like she's trying to pass something. I know she's trying and she's fighting so hard which is what absolutely kills me.
She will be two in March.
She's sitting in a warm water bath right now. Got her to eat oatmeal with some of her food mixed in, some watermelon, and a couple raisins. I've been forcing her to drink more water. I felt up in her vent and can't feel anything, but vet said the blockage was high...
Thank you.. I will ask when I pick her up. She's still at the vet, waiting for the egg to be aspirated. I just don't get what would cause a soft egg to stay that high up in her tract. At the point it's at, it wouldn't be shelled, but there's fluid accumulation around it. No idea.. It just makes...
Just went to vet. She is severely wasted, very skinny. She has a shell less egg high up in her repro tract that isn't moving down, and there is fluid behind it. She thinks the fluid I pulled out was likely from sterile peritonitis. She's attempting to aspirate the egg small enough so it can...
Based on those photos I'm certain it's "water belly", or ascites. Vet said it could be caused by inadequate protein after a hard molt, so she goes in tomorrow. Getting a large syringe. Drained about 20 ml so far, I'll bet there's at least 200 more.
Just did this, it's clear, yellow fluid. Headed to the supply store to get a bigger syringe to drain it more quickly. Are there any other possible causes of fluid in the belly? She was literally her fine normal self 7 days ago. Onset that quickly? She's eating and drinking. She's not even quite...
Hey.. Just got home from vacation, and my chicken is standing like a penguin, puffed up and her abdomen is round and tight like a water balloon, and pretty red/purpley. Her comb is red, but shrunken, and she's eating cheese at the moment, hasn't drank. Just pooped, looks normal. She's standing...
Hi! One of my chickens, don't know which at this point, laid yolk this morning in the nesting box. I caught one of them eating it, so I cleaned it out, and on my way to the trash noticed a curled up, soft shell in the yard. Like she laid the yolk and passed the shell as she was running out to...
