Hi All,
I have a question. I was on this thread in May and had two emu chicks hatch, Sydney and Rio.......both girls. My question is Sydney is about two feet talk while Rio is a little over a foot. Is it normal to have two emus the same age be so different in size? They look like they hatched a...
My guess is they want to walk them. I know our pen is mostly in our back acre which is somewhat woodsy and wild. I always wondered how to take my emus out onto our lawn for grazing. Maybe that's why they want to harness train them.
Well, I called Zoogen and got my results. Both Sydney and Rio are girls. I'm very excited because all I need to di us get a male and I'll have a perfect trio.......if they were not and girl I'd have no way of knowing if they came from the same pair because the seller of my eggs didn't mark them...
I was supposed to call Zoogen yesterday to get my results but I got so busy at work that I forgot......****, now I'll have to wait until Tuesday!!!!!! Ugh
Great News Grassman. I should be getting my results back this afternoon. With only 2 chicks my outcome isn't as critical. I just really want to know so I can call them he or she.......I want to be politically correct even with my emus. Hehehe
Yesterday I had my goslings and emu chicks outside as it was sunny and 80 degrees. So they were playing nicely so I decides to mow the lawn. I got on the riding mower and thought I'd just keep an eye on them while I mowed. No need.......they all followed behind the mower the whole time. We have...
Even better would be a parrot toy. They're shinier.......
Also Grassman, I put my Emu chicks with some Pilgrim goslings that hatched at the same time. The goslings taught the Emus to eat and drink right away. Also, I give the greens as a treat only. I also feed them the greens by hand only...
Yes, to be honest I basically ran it between 96 and 97 degrees and just kept water in the reservoirs. I didn't weigh the eggs at all. I just hand turned them morning and night. I truly didn't think we'd have much luck but 3 out of 4 eggs isn't too shabby. Call it beginners luck, who knows but...
Yoda, yes a pair is good with us too. Especially where they are our first Emus. But we're hooked and can't wait to get more eggs next year.......lol
And judging by their personalities keeping up with the poop will be a small price to pay for these amazing pets. But again, we only have...
Mine don't have auto turners so I turned them by hand. It's a big committment for emus as it takes almost two months. I never missed a turn......and it paid off. We just love these little guys. They're just a week old and there growing fast.
I used a styrofoam little giant for 4 emu eggs and I got 3 to hatch......I think it was easier to maintain temp and humidity in the smaller incubator. Then just before hatch day I got some styrofoam sheets and made a 7 inch extension for the height. It was my first time with emu so I was...
