She is the only blue rock I have left. A fox got the other blue rock. My other chickens are Marans and they lay a chocolate color egg, darker then the brown egg a rock lays.
I have five hens. Four have been laying for almost 2 months now, but one has not laid eggs yet. She appears to be healthy but don't know what is wrong. Is this normal?
I want to thank all of you for your help and suggestions. I dug out old equipment and got everything set up for my new chicks. When I got to the store they had a different breed. ISO's were gone which I wanted to try, but I was able to get 3 mystics marans (which is the 2nd breed I decided to...
Interesting you mentioned these 2. I was leaning toward them, but read that Wyandottes don't get along well with other breeds. Have you found that to be true? Seems to me if they are baby chicks and grow up together they should be OK.
In the past I always had good luck with NH Reds and Barred Rocks. I want to start up a coop again but unable to get these breeds at my local stores. My choices are ISA browns, Jersey Giants, Marans, and Gold Wyandottes. I don't know anything about these breeds. What would be the best choice of...
You are doing all the right things. I had a hawk attack on one of my hens and with TLC she is 100% healed and back with the rest of the flock. Feathers are all grown back in and would never know she had a big gash in her back. Your girl will be good as new also.
I have a hen that is limping on her foot. She curls her toes up and limps around. I have been reading about bumble foot and upon examining I don't see a sore, scab, swelling, or discoloration. Am perplexed on what could be wrong. I will try soaking her foot in Epsom salt as you have and see if...
Hello Jessica. So glad you are able to find a place to rent and have some of the good things you have been dreaming of. I am a Kansas born and raised girl, had to relocate about 24 years ago, but Kansas will always be home. You do live in a great part of the state. Good luck with your homestead...
