Unfortunately she is no longer with us. I'm very sad. I think she may have had a weakened immune system. I nearly lost her about a year ago to coccidiosis. The vet didn't think she would make it then, but I was able to bring her back. Not this time.
Thank you for all of your help and...
I can shine a light this evening to see if it reacts. She is pecking mid air, too, which is a sign of blindness according to the article I read. Going to feed her lunch now.
She had coccidiosis about a year ago. The whole flock was treated. I almost lost her then. I've not treated for any other worms. What should I give her and the others for treatment of worms?
I don't have any live meal worms. I tried to feed her chick feed with salmon. She ate a little. I took my finger and moved it toward her eye. She didn't even flinch or blink her eye. The pupil of her eyes are both very large. I read an article last night about blindness in a chicken. She...
I gave her some chick mash with water because of the nutrients in it. She did eat some. I will add your suggestions to her breakfast in the morning. She just seems so disoriented. I will continue to watch her poop. The reason I think she's blind is I have two small feeders (water in one and...
I have attached pics of my sick hen. A pic of poop, a pic of each eye, and a pic of her. Her crop is nil, her tummy is normal, no mites or bugs, and no vent discharge. I really believe she has gone blind. When I approach her crate, she doesn't look my way, she just sits like she is scared...
Thank you for responding. I have 19 hens and 1 roo. I think she is laying because I'm finding an egg on the ground nearly every day and that hadn't happened before so I'm thinking because she won't fly up to roost, she's not flying up to nest to lay her egg. It's a small brown egg like she...
I have a sick hen. She just stands or sits. She won't fly up to a roost, but stays on the ground. She is very slow to move. Yesterday she walked into the fence, stopped, and just stood there. I picked her up and brought my hand to each eye as if I were going to slap her. She flinched both...
Yeah I drove home with them and cried the whole way. It was such a pitiful site. I have found that there are hatcheries in my state, so think I will take me a little trip and pick them up in person.
I did purchase 3 day old chicks from Meyer farms and had them vaccinated. They arrived last week within 24 hours of birth, but when I picked them up from USPS they were without life. I just don't have the whatever to do that again. I was going to wait until spring when the weather warms up...
I will research this. Thank you. About a month and half ago I ordered 3 pullet chicks from Meyer Farms. They arrived last week the day after they were born, but unfortunately when I picked them up from the USPS, they were dead. I understand it's better to get them as chicks from somewhere...
I wish I could have kept them further apart but that's the best I could do with them. I took the pullet to the vet when the fowl pox showed up to make sure it wasn't "wet" pox. He said there was no way to keep the established flock from getting it because it is from mosquito bites so it was...
I purchased a young hen and two pullets from another backyard chicken owner. When I got them home I separated them in another pen from my established flock. They were about 250 feet apart.
The day after I got them one of the pullets started sneeting, slinging her head with clear liquid coming...
