We used plywood for our subfloor and used a vinyl flooring remnant that I found at a local flooring/carpet store. I told them what size I was looking for, color and pattern did not matter. What else are they going to do with such a small amount? Seems like I got my scrap for $10-$15. Haggled...
Awesome investment! You're birds will be happy I'm sure!
My mom keeps telling me how she can't afford to make herself a coop. And I keep telling her ideas to get free or cheap materials bit by bit until she has enough to get started on something. She's in GA, we're in CA or I'd gladly go help...
Took me a little while to catch up on all the posts. Went into the hospital last Thursday for a hysterectomy. Got discharged home yesterday. So just hanging out on the couch today watching TV and catching up with email and stuff. Making myself get up every so often as I know the movement is good...
Chickens will eat your garden down to nothing! Here's what we're doing. Two years ago we installed a 30x40' five foot tall chain link fence. Last year built a small coop in against one 30' long sides. Then we got our chickens. They've cleared the whole area of any weeds and added their poop for...
Sorry, don't have an answer to your question. But I plan to let my silkie sit on eggs from my Welsummer, Orpington, and Araucauna. Probably no more than 8-9 total though. That might be pushing it.
9 eggs from 12 hens and 1 duck yesterday. Though a few of my girls fly out of their pen regularly and lay here and there in the yard, so God only knows. We're working on fixing that!
Okie, I like your lil crocheted chicks! Especially the fuzzy one without eyes. What about trying the eyes closer together on the other one? And your colors for the new afghan are very pretty! Nice choices!

Well, husband now tells me netting is not going over the whole chicken side. He plans to make extensions to the chain link posts and just add netting or fencing to the extended part. I am not convinced this will work. We'll see, I guess.
The chickens will definitely get the veggies too...

KinderKorner, What kind of fencing do you use to keep your chickens and goats out of your garden?
I did it out of order and got chickens first, this year hopefully( ) will be the gardening.
Right now our birds have the run of the 30x40' garden fenced in with 5' chain link. The coop is...
This looks like a wonderful recipe! Was hoping to bake something today that took lots of eggs and you guys did not disappoint! Bought fresh lemons and limes yesterday, maybe I'll add a little zest to the batter and use the juice for a glaze...
Lucky us! The propane company came out earlier than planned and filled us up yesterday afternoon!! We felt like we were in 'fat city' having hot water and the heater on again. It'd been down to 52 degrees in the house the last 3 nights! Woohoo! Now I can get caught up on washing dishes and clothes!
Hi, all! Day off today so I finally get a chance to settle in and catch up on all the posts. DH and I feel like we're camping. We've been out of propane for 3 nights now and they won't be here until Sunday to fill us up. Well, they could come out earlier for an extra $160. Can't use our heater...
When I was 15 I took a job as an aide at a preschool/daycare center. On my first day there I was assigned to monitor the kindergarten boys trip to the bathroom. A set of rambunctious twins put my patience to the test when I saw that they were peeing at each other under the stalls. Realizing I...

I've been alternating on two crocheted afghans. One for my husband, and one for my daughter. Gotta put it down today, though, house won't clean itself! Rats!
