I have this thought, of putting dog poop around the coop perimeter. I have 4 dogs of my own, landlord has 3 big dogs, so no shortage of dog poop. Has anyone tried this?
Waaaaay too many predators in my area to free range. They stay in the coop. I'm building a coop closer to my house, right outside my front door. I'm guessing predators are more desperate in Winter. I have sucky sleep lots of nights (apnea and asthma), so last night, all the neighbor dogs were...
That's what my grandfather used to say about any kind of dog (tame or wild). He said once they got a taste of blood, they would keep coming back, and needed to be put down.
Ohmyword, yes. I defended a black girl on FB who got attacked by white girls, and was given a suspension for "hate crimes". If you say ANYTHING against the group narrative, you eventually get sanctioned. Pick a topic of any kind. Have your own brain, you'll eventually get in trouble. I canceled...
I rescued this girl from a druggy like what you describe. Not pulling her ears. Just holding back the one. This chick originally had a huge assortment confiscated. She was selling animals. So recently, she had my girl, my girls daughter, and a big bird of some kind. I rescued the mama, super...
Thanks. My landlord trespassed those tweakers, and the police know them. Landlord gave me some materials, so setting up a smaller coop in my yard. Be nice if I could train them to walk on a harness and leash, silly as that sounds, but I'll probably end up making them their own covered small yard...
She was suffering. Pretty sure there were several eggs. She moaned every time I picked her up.. I learned something today, anyway. And how to hopefully prevent it happening again with this other hen. But it's something to watch for in older hens especially? Because their muscles aren't as good...
Has anyone put a hen down, if they couldn't get her to pass the egg(s)? I just now had my pinkie finger imside, and white liquid came out. So either egg with no shell, or infection. Gads, I've had these girls a week or 2, and poopy butt was that way the first day. I just thought it was stress...
Doing all that. Just got 2 calcium tabs. Got part of one in her. Feels like more than one egg, or maybe just me being new. I'm angry that the person she came from, never even noticed the poopy butt 😡. It's gotta be painful, and her belly feels warm. I'll be praying and treating her til Monday...
Well, found put why she's been having diarrhea. She's eggbound. I did her little bath with Epsom salts, and she seems to like it, but there's a large, fully formed egg that she's not passing. More water, and lubricant? It's right there, at the entrance to her vent. Would gently stretching her...
They aren't free-range, but weeds grow, especially after rain. What weeds should I watch out for especially? We get a lot of pig weed where I live. I know humans can eat it, but can chickens? I pick fresh grass for them. They eat some of it, and the rest makes great bedding. No pesticides or...
I will try and remember to take my phone when I go out later to do Minnie's butt soak. I'm really thankful for this group. Just that one soak (so far), and her butt is already improving. I'm going to try Epsom Salts today. And a little plain yogurt.
