Thanks! I heard you have to wait for it to crow or lay an egg to tell. Do you know what signs to look for? I feel I have 4 roosters by behavior and looks but they are too young to tell.
Thoughts on my baby silkie? I think this one is a roo! 5 weeks old so can't fully tell but just ideas! He jumps with the other ones and pushes around the girls sometimes.
I am trying to figure out how to design a quail coop with a planter for a plant on the top! I have a rough drawing of what i kind of want but not sure how to go about building! Any advice would be much appreciated! Or if you have a better design/plan please pass it on!(:
Who here has used chicken daipers?? Im interested in making my own for the first time but i dont know of anyone that has used them! Do's and Donts? Advice? Pro vs Cons? I have 4 10 week old silkie chickens that i dont want outside currently due to the rising amount of predators in our neighborhood.
Okay so kind of a long story! I have one 8 week old coturnix female. I had recently gotten 5 two week old coturnix quail babies and had them in a separate cage due to age difference. For some unknown reason 4 of the babies passed over a span of 4 days despite my efforts. With one baby left and...
Lmao thank you for the advice!! I definitely do not want to mess with egg production and if clipping wings(Not me doing it) effects that then i definitely dont want to do that! Ive had coturnix once before but only 2 and they were not interested in flying much lol my bobwhites on the other hand...
2 are 1 day old and the rest are still in the incubator! I have 7 tho so only wanting maybe 1 male for fertilized eggs but other then that i have no use for them.
What do you do with your Male quails? I keep mine for eggs only(So i only need females) but i bought 7 chicks straight run so what do I do if 3-4 turn out male? Cook em? Are they to small to eat? Quail meat good for dogs? Sorry new to raising chicks! I do not need a rooster as i do not need to...
They are for eggs and then meat once they stop laying! We have our silkie chickens as our pets. So we could do a 4x4 cage for all 5? Plus they are getting their wings clipped immediately after hatching so they wont be able to fly. How tall does it need to be? Can they use a ramp or is one level...
Im talking about when they are full grown. I have the brooder all ready for them but havent build them a coop yet. Wire cage most likely so that i can bring it inside in bad weather and freezing temperatures.
I have 5 coturnix quail in the incubator ready to hatch any day now! How big should i make their indoor coop for 5? I heard they need 1 sq ft ler bird? Sounded like such little space but i suppose they are little birds! Thoughts?
I have 3 silkie chickens ranging from 1 week of age to about 3 weeks of age. They are on 18% protein starter chick feed right now with chick grit mixed in for the older chick. Is this okay? When should i transition them to the next level and what is that? Sorry first time chicken owner here!
