I actually have an eye screw on a chain to attach cabbage or pumpkins. It's just hooked up high out of the way right now. I'll check out Amazon for the skewers
Oooo, I like the idea of the trim boards. It would match the trim on the coop. I'm not sure anything could actually get ahold of the edge of the HC. I stapled every 1 to 1.5 inches. I can't even get a screwdriver under it without a lot of work. These aren't your typical staples. They're...
...(non-taut) hardware cloth and pull also, but it doesn't look like you've got any of that, so you're good there.
I'm assuming you've got an apron under all that lovely mulch. If not, I'd strongly recommend putting one down. Mine extends 3 ft from my coop, and I've seen critters digging 2.5...
Predator apron goes out 2' and is under the landscape blocks. I'm also thinking of putting in a solar vent fan in the gables. I was also thinking that I might need to add some ventilation at floor level to help with the hot air rising and escaping. It's amazingly cooler in the run where the...
So I used narrow crown 3/4" staples, but I can go back and add screws with washers just to be safe. The predator apron goes 2' out and is
The yellow matches my house and shed. There are treat trays attached to the perches in different locations. They were installed after the photos. Next...
...the high side of the wall under the roof overhang over the run. In Atlanta you can't have too much ventilation. And if you've got a predator apron around the entire base of that setup I would leave the pop door open year round.
How have you secured the hardware cloth to the wood? I don't see...
O!! I forgot to add aprons on tractors. Aart's Hoop Coop shows hers.
Here are some other ideas, too.
This hoop coop tractor also does an apron. Nice Hoop coop, too.
...at this time - the roosts. The front will be a 10' wide dog kennel panels w/ gates set up on a layer of cinderblock. The front will have a wire apron. Have several ideas for the back - havent decided yet...

In all actuality, all chicken areas on...
How is her healing progressing?
I wonder if you put a saddle apron on her back if that would deter the others from pecking on her?
I also wonder if you can let Cheeks have some limited free time roaming outside with you present when all the other chickens are confined in the run? This...
...I worked on "upgrading" my potting bench yesterday. It's a very sturdy salvaged metal base, "married" to an old enameled sink with drainage aprons on both ends. Luckily, the base parts have holes placed a few inches apart. So, I've added a cedar picket-board shelf under the sink basin and a...
Yeah, a hardware cloth skirt/apron is pretty easy and well worth the peace of mind. Mine is 24". Didn't even bury it; just stapled down thoroughly with extra long landscape pins. Some is covered in gravel, some with a garden box, and some with weeds.
...it a warning. It sees something to eat. Baby chicks need secure carabiners on the latches and closed pens covered with 1/2" hardware cloth to keep out small and large predators alike. You also need an apron if it sits on the ground to keep out diggers.Everything eats chicks.Sorry for your loss!
If the coop is secure, the babies can go if they're out of drafts.
It wouldn't hurt to bury an apron, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it too late.
This is temporary housing so I'm avoiding that level of ground involvement. New hen house will be 18x24' with a coop, run, and storage/egg room all under one roof. Block foundation with dirt floor.
OH THANK YOU!!! these all seem a lot easier than the type I was going to build. These would be perfect though! Especially cause I only have 7 chickens rn, they really aren't going to need as much space as I keep thinking. Plus these would be a lot easier cause they are more things "on hand". I...
...will be putting on new bases, adding 1/2" HWC to them. No wheels - use a piece of 6 o 8' PVC, lift front on to it & "glide" to next position. Even here, it's sometimes hard to get level w/ no gaps. Will also be adding hinged aprons - lift up to move tractor & pin down when parked. These are...
You need to separate them or protect her with an apron or she could end up really sore. If her skin gets red and broken the other chickens could peck at her, which could even lead to cannibalism. Nothing cute about that.
