Im in thr UK and it rains more days than it doesnt, my three silkies are fine in thr rain and are usually soaked through more than my other hens. Iv had them for nearly 3 years and none have gotten sick in anyway. Hope this helps :)
My chick hatched wednesday eveningand had a strange dry lunp on its tummy, today (friday) she started pecking it and its come loose and started to seep a bit. Should i be worried? Will this clear up on its own or should she go to the vet?
@Yorkshire coop I am using Scrambles one of my Silkies, I had Clarissa my Sussex hatch Scrambles and her sisters so hoping Scrambles will be a natural mother like her mother was! Put the eggs under her today so the wait has begun!
I managed to get her healthy then when they went out with my hens marmite got beaten up and poorly again so i seperated her and got her antibiotics and all was looking good for her to go back in with my hens tomorrow. Then today she stopped eating but laid a normal egg this morning but when i...
I'm in Bistol and theres a couple farms here that deliver. If you google chicks for sale in Birmingham something should pop up. Sometimes trade it has chicks for sale to.
Has anyone had any problems with hens attacking new hens? I put two new ones in on friday night and last night I had to...
They didnt no they was sick. They had rats so no one wanted to go down the garden to see then ao theyv been left on their own. When they did go down t them it was just to fill up the food and water so not enough tme spent with them to no they are sick. They are perking up a bit today. Going to...
i am unable to take them back as they sre unable to look after the hens now. I will see how they are ovwr next few days/weeks as i will be keeping them seperate feom my hens until im sure nothing bad will happen
They were sneezing before i had got them home! Lady Grace has a bad wheeze and idealy i would want to keep her on her own but both have had a stressful time of it lately so i dont want to seperate them. Will keep am eye on them both and hope its just the stress and they will be ok in time!
The hens i have already get what i would call a cold as they sneeze, i put apple cider vinager in their water which clears it up. Lady Grace and Marmite both sneeze and one is very wheezy so have put the vinager in their water like i would with the others. So do you think I should be doing...

What will you be doing in college? I'm sure you will manage to balance the two, even if its just once a week while you watch a film. That's lovely! It's so nice when others appropriate your hard work. Would a slightly larger needle not help?
I'm working on the sleeves to the cardie today. Going...
@Xiao Casa that scarf is beautiful, I love the sequinned yarn but you are right it is a real pain to undo! How come you may not have much time to knit soon?
@Sarevan I found watching youtube how to videos really helpful, sometimes the book pictures are hard to follow but good luck sounds...
Yed Babs seems fine in herself just taking longer to grow big and chunky! It was the dame with my three Sussex hens Clarissa grew quicker than her sister Cluckles and Charlotte who is a speckled Sussex rather than a light Sussex took even longer to be fully grown, so im not worried about Babs...
@senorita05 Her comb is this red although Babs her sister's is alot lighter, Babs seems to be developing alot slower, shes smaller and weighs significantly less. Neither have started to lay but Ginger started to practice the iv laid an egg song with my other hens the other day so hopefully not...
Managed to get down there yesterday and had a cuddle with the not so little chicks. Ginger is deficiently significantly heavier than Babs so maybe the egg wait wont be so long. Both cats have been avoiding me, I clearly dont smell right to them, Jinny has been like it for months so looking back...
She looks like my red sex link Ginger, my other babs is alot lighter but such a beautiful and friendly breed. Looks like ours may be of similar age
Here's Ginger :-)
My first three hens never practised the egg song until they had started laying but since adding more to the family the others practised before they started as they join in with the first three. You may not be missing it they may just not of figured out they can sing a special song yet :-)
