Sad day My back won't let me do much and the wife is tired of taking care of my girls. So I posted my coop and girls on CL and they sold in less than an hour! The girls were showing off for their new owners, even flying up to roost on my arm and get some scratch. They told me their...

But don't let your chickens see it. They may revolt until you build one for them!

So, we're new to chickens, new to BYC, and new to Consolidated KS. Is there a way to find folk from an even more-specific area? We're from the greater Wichita area. Howdy, Kansas!
Welcome! I'm on the NW side of Wichita not far from New Market area.
Is it normal for a brown egg layers that has laid several brown eggs to lay a white egg? I don't mean light brown either. She laid a completely white egg yesterday. Today she laid a regular brown egg.

Katy: Where do you get the Ultrakibble? I asked the TSC here in Wichita and they told me if I wanted it I had to order a pallet.
I ordered it thru the TSC in Hutch......I didn't have to order a pallet.
Thanks! Thats close enough to work once I recover from my surgery.

I've been thinking of you, Katy, and wondering how your experience has been with the UK...I could send you my recipe and you could get the grains mixed at a feed mill in your area!
They seem to like the ultra kibble, but I know I've been trying to stretch it too far so I really haven't...

...and you don't have the cleavage for it, either.
OMG....... That was so funny. FYI everyone We were told By Renee at our first meet and greet that she had hatched an egg in her bra
She is the chicken master
So her chickens aren't the only thing on her farm that may get broody?

What if I was not planning on eating them?
I share among my friends eat or not eat Free! I started this to sell a few eggs and always have some for the table, but with current economy. I just know too many people that are on hard times. I have not sold eggs in ages. I would...

You can get airlocks and stoppers from any winemaking or beer brewing stores. There are a couple in KC and one in Wichita or several places to get them online. A tube into a small tub with water works too. The only thing with water is it may not say clean and you don't want that in...
You can make wine out of anything. All you need is some sort of water, sugar, yeast and flavoring. Juice provides the water and usually the flavor. You can make wine from coffee. Some needs to age and some are vey good young. I made mead (honey wine)3 years ago that tasted like honey...

I bought 3 of the white leghorn hybrids and got my first egg on the drive home. Very nice large eggs and I got 3 eggs usually 5 days a week, got 2 eggs on the other two days. If you wanting eggs you would be hard pressed to find better birds. If you want docile pets that happen to...

Well her eggs were bigger than a quarter and his were about the size of his nickel. So it may take 5! My leghorns use to give me one of those huge eggs but my largest was 3.9 ounces and it was way to big for the carton.
I wonder if you hatch one of those do you get twins in one egg...

Which breed lays that big of an egg? My two layers give me 1.8 and 2.2 ounce eggs. The X-large eggs at the store are only 2 ounces. I did have some white leghorn pullets that would give me 1 or 2 3.9 ounce double yolkers a week but that slowed down as they got older (and noisier)...
One of my girls has taken to laying right before roosting for the night. So this 11 degree morning I got an egg so cold it hurt to hold in my hand. Can an egg freeze without cracking the shell? And if it can is that egg still okay to use?
