    I don't know what decision was right!

    you made the right decision. Little cranky ones would have made the visit misable anyway. It would be nice if maybe you and the kids and hubby(if available) could maybe go for a day visit with him and have lunch or something. After losing his wife, Im sure hed enjoy the company.

    Its always easier to ask forgiveness rather than permission. You could always get the saw fixed and do what you have to do. Then if the "buddy" shows up, give him another job that needs to be done(like cutting the wood). Just tell hubby you've got things taken care of. Im sure its stressful...
