Thank you for the info! One of them that was done 2 months ago had his comb turn pink, and then it went back to red. It is really big. That means he is a slip? He is huge, bigger than any rooster I’ve ever had, and he looks exactly like a rooster. He is a big goofy thing though. No crowing...
Yes, I am aware. I have read every word of every post on here and every other forum regarding slips and capons in general. I wanted to know if anyone ever had a slip in which the testicle was disconnected and fell into the body cavity, and if that slip did NOT exhibit any rooster qualities later...
That information is available NOWHERE. Suggesting someone do a basic search in this day and age is, well, I think everyone knows the answer to that. If not, they should do a basic search for it.
I’m not in CA, but it took me 2 years to find someone to do it. I recommend calling every single processing plant within a couple of hours of you. That’s how I found someone. You may have to plead your case, leave messages, continue calling, and so on. Plan a day for it. It’s very hard to find...
Anyone have any slips that still didn’t crow, mate, fight or overall act like bad roosters? I had an aggressive little roo done today at 7 weeks. The second testes was completely disconnected, but fell and couldn’t be safely retrieved. I wasn’t about to risk his life, my capons are pets. Of...
Oh my! They aren’t even supposed to have white faces at this age?? I requested access to see your pictures. If I have a male, he needs to be Caponized as quickly as possible so that he can stay living with his chicken family! We already have two roosters and any more and they will just fight and...
There was something written at one of the hatcheries about them being different at hatching, but I was only referring to the feather pattern being different, which works for some breeds and not others. Someone told me that breeders often breed for feather growth to achieve the different look in...
Anyone have lots of Buckeyes? I have read that the male and female look opposite when young. When they were 2 days old, one had the typical male feathers, the other very much so female. I think it was the darker colored one that had “female” feathers. These two are 5 1/2 weeks old…
Did this end up being male or female? I am having terrible trouble determining if my 2 buckeyes are male or female. At 2 days old, one had the very clear male feather pattern and the other very clear female, but now the male feather one has a pale comb and the other red!
We have a bunch of old laws where we live too. I think everyone does. In our Township, if your dog barks too much, they say they will cut off his head and charge the owner a dollar if they want it back. Obviously, that is a law they would never follow through with! Yet it’s still in their law…
That’s why caponizing is so nice. The beloved birds get to live long and happy lives in their home. Get an expert caponizer and the surgury takes less than 2 minutes.
The only five toed birds I know of are salmon favorelle and Houdan, maybe some bantams too but I don’t know anything about those. I would guess she is an adorable mixed breed.
I know they are too young to tell, but I thought it would be fun to start guessing now!
I ordered 5 females from Chickens for backyards. They also sent 2 free gifts. They are all 3 weeks old. I also hatched 2 eggs and they are 2 weeks old. It’s hard to take pics of these fast little critters...
This has been the most helpful sexing info I have seen. Thank you for the EXCELLENT pictures and descriptions! I’m really sad for you having so many boys. I just got 7 from a hatchery in which I ordered all female. We are at 3 weeks and it appears I only got 4 pullets - at most. Have you...
